Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Softball squad racked up a pair of weekly Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) honors after its season-opening series in Waco, TX last week. Sophomore Ashlynn Sheets (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) has been named the ICCAC DI Softball Pitcher of the Week while freshman Cassandra Benberg (Green Bay, WI/Pulaski) has been tapped as the conference's offensive player of the week.

The duo helped the Warriors pick up a pair of wins during the team's four-game series to open the new year. After dropping a pair of matchups to No. 2 nationally ranked McLennan Community College (TX), the Warriors bounced back with two wins on Friday – a 9-1 victory over Dodge City Community College (KS) and a 9-2 win over Alvin Community College (TX).

Sheets, an NJCAA All-Region 11 performer as a freshman for the Warriors last year, went 1-1 in the circle, picking up a victory over Dodge City. Sheets kept the Conquistadors at bay, scattering three hits across four innings of walk with just one earned run allowed. Sheets struck out five batters on the day to give the sophomore 130 punchouts for her career.

Sheets has now collected three ICCAC Pitcher of the Week honors throughout her Indian Hills career.

Benberg starred at the plate for the Warriors in her collegiate debut. Across four games, the freshman posted a .500 batting average, going 6-12 at the dish. Benberg tallied three multi-hit games for the Warriors, including a pair of hits in each of the team's victories on Friday. Benberg added five RBI along with a pair of runs scored to pace the Warrior offense.

The Warriors are back in action this weekend with the SCC Turf Tournament in Burlington, IA. The four-game, two-day event gets underway at 9:00 AM Friday morning at the FunCity Turf Complex.
