Burlington, IA – The Indian Hills Softball squad returns to action this weekend with the indoor SCC Turf Tournament in Burlington, IA. The Warriors open up play Friday morning.

LEADING OFF

Indian Hills makes the trek down Highway 34 to Burlington for the SCC Turf Tournament, hosted by Southeastern Community College.

  • The Warriors opened up the year last week in Texas, going 2-2 with wins over Dodge City Community College (KS) and Alvin Community College (TX)
  • Sophomore Ashlynn Sheets and Cassandra Benberg were honored with ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors following the team's southern trip
  • Benberg and Peyton Raley powered the offense through the first four games of the year, combined for 11 hits, eight runs, and six RBI.
  • Five different players earned innings in the circle last week, led by Sheets and Ruble who each collected wins. Freshman Courtney DenRuyter made a pair of scoreless relief appearances.
  • In the two wins last week, the Warriors outscored the opposition 18-3 while batting .365 as a team.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS

Ellsworth will be making its season debut on Friday with its opener against the Warriors.

  • The Panthers are coming off a 22-32 season from a year ago.
  • Three players return from last year's team that batted at least .300 at the plate.
  • The Panthers return more than 64.0 percent of its innings in the circle from last year's roster.
  • The Warriors have won 16 consecutive games vs. the Panthers dating back to the 2013 season.

SCOUTING THE BRAVES

  • Black Hawk opens up its 2025 season on Friday with a doubleheader against Southeastern and Indian Hills.
  • The Braves posted a 29-26 overall record last year.
  • Indian Hills and Black Hawk will be meeting at the SCC Turf Tournament for the second consecutive year. The Warriors defeated the Braves 18-2 last season.

SCOUTING THE REDTAILS

Hawkeye will open up its 2025 season on Friday before taking on the Warriors on Saturday.

  • The Redtails are coming off a 7-39 record last season.
  • Hawkeye is ints third season of competition as an NJCAA program.
  • Indian Hills and Hawkeye will be meeting for the first time. 

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES

Indian Hills will close out its weekend series against Rock Valley, a perennial national contender at the NJCAA DII level, who will be making its season debut this weekend in Burlington.

  • The two programs will be meeting for the 13th time since 2022 with the Warriors holding a 9-3 advantage.
  • Rock Valley posted a 34-15 record last season while advancing to the NJCAA DII Softball World Series.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Warriors will make its second southern swing of the year with trips to Tennessee and Alabama next week. The Warriors will take on Volunteer State Community College (TN) in Gallatin, TN on Feburary 19 before taking on the JUCO Extravaganza in Oxford, AL February 21-23.
