Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Ava Smith (Waukee, IA/Waukee Northwest) strung together a dominant series of offensive performances over the weekend for Indian Hills Softball to earn Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Softball Player of the Week honors.
Smith powered the Warriors to a 4-0 weekend at the SCC Turf Tournament with a breakthrough performance at the plate to help extend the Warriors' winning streak to six games. Over the two-day event in Burlington, Smith boasted a .714 hitting percentage with 10 hits, including seven for extra bases. The sophomore added three RBI and four runs scored in the weekend sweep for the Warriors.
Smith, who has hit safely in six consecutive contests for the Warriors, produced a 4-5 performance in a 13-3 win over Black Hawk College (IL) with a career-high four doubles.
Smith is currently tied for third-most doubles in the nation this year with eight, and are the most for a player with less than 11 games played. On the year, the sophomore boasts a .560 batting average and an .880 slugging percentage.
The Warriors return to action this weekend with a trip to Oxford, AL for the JUCO Extraganza. The three-day, six-game trip opens up Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
