PREVIEW: WARRIORS SET FOR TRIPS TO KANSAS, OKLAHOMA

Overland Park, KS – The Indian Hills Softball squad returns to action this weekend as the Warriors head south for a pair of doubleheaders. Indian Hills will travel to Johnson County Community College (KS) in Overland Park, KS on Friday and Connors State College (OK) in Warner, OK on Saturday.

LEADING OFF

The Warriors head south with a 6-8 overall record on the year and will be playing in their fourth and fifth states of the early season schedule.

  • Sophomore Ava Smith (.417) and freshman Cassandra Benberg (.406) lead the offense through 14 games as the duo have combined for 28 hits and 14 RBI.
  • Sophomore Peyton Raley has hit safely in 12 of the team's 14 contests this year, including four-straight heading into the weekend. Raley boasts a .375 batting average on the year.
  • In the circle, sophomore Ashlynn Sheets has led the pitching staff with three victories and a team-high 27 strikeouts. Sheets recently surpassed 150 career strikeouts in her Indian Hills career.
  • The early season road swing has seen the Warriors compete in Texas, Iowa, and Alabama, along with the upcoming trips to Kansas and Oklahoma for a total of 4,514 roundtrip miles.

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS

Indian Hills and Johnson County will be meeting for the third consecutive year and have squared off 13 times since 2016.

  • Johnson County heads into the weekend series with a 3-6 overall record, having dropped five consecutive contests in Columbus, GA last week.
  • The Cavaliers have outscored their opponents 95-69 on the year and are currently batting .414 at the plate as a team.
  • Johnson County boasts seven players with a batting average of .400 or better, led by Haley Bryant's .625 (20-32) clip.
  • The Warriors own a 10-3 overall record vs. the Cavaliers since 2016 after splitting the regular season series last year in Overland Park.

SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS

Connors State heads into the weekend with a 5-3 overall record ahead of doubleheaders with Coffeyville Community College (KS) on Friday and the twinbill vs. Indian Hills on Saturday.

  • The Cowgirls are coming off a 39-14 record from a year ago, reaching the NJCAA District Championship series against Iowa Western Community College.
  • Connors State is outscoring its opponents this year 49-30, scoring double-digit runs in three of its eight contests.
  • Indian Hills and Connors State have met just four times since 2010. The two sides split twinbills in Warner, OK last season and against in 2017.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Warriors are set to make their home debut at R.L. Hellyer Field March 9 with a doubleheader against Jefferson College (MO). First pitch in Ottumwa is set for 12:00 PM.
