Creston, IA – The Indian Hills Softball team picked up its second consecutive Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) sweep on Monday, dropping Southwestern Community College 9-0 and 6-1. The Warriors move to 14-12 on the year and 4-0 in league play.
Fresh off a sweep of Iowa Western Community College on Saturday, the Warriors' road swing continued with a trip to Southwestern. The Warriors rolled the Spartans in back-to-back contests to keep its unbeaten conference record in tact. Indian Hills has now defeated Southwestern in 23 consecutive contests.
Sophomore Ashlynn Sheets (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) kept the Spartans in check on Monday, tossing four scoreless innings with just three hits allowed. Sheets struck out five batters while issuing just one walk to secure her 20th career victory. Freshman Hannah Carter (Bethany, MO/South Harrison) added a scoreless inning of relief..Freshman Cassandra Benberg (Green Bay, WI/Pulaski) delivered a fourth-inning home run, a two-run shot as part of a four-run frame for the Warriors. Benberg was one of seven Warriors to collect a hit in the win, led by a pair from Shanna Buford (Donnellson, IA/Central Lee) and Yarah Zuiver (Zaanstad, Netherlands/Roc Van Amsterdam). Freshman Mary-Paige Withers added three RBI in the victory.
Indian Hills cruised to a game two victory thanks in part to a three-run third inning. The Warriors tacked on two more in the fifth and a final run in the seventh. Sophomore Peyton Raley (Arvada, CO/Arvada West) went 3-4 at the plate with three RBI and a pair of runs scored. Chandler Houselog (Dubuque, IA/Dubuque Hempstead) tallied a pair of hits to pace the eight-hit attack for the Warriors.
Sophomore Alivia Ruble (Lacona, IA/Southeast Warren) picked up the win in the circle, her fifth of the year after scattering four hits with just one earned run allowed. Jordyn Beck (Marion, IA/Linn-Mar) produced another impressive outing in relief, working three scoreless frames for the Warriors.
Originally scheduled to travel to North Iowa Area Community College on Wednesday, the Warriors' matchup with the Trojans has been postponed. Indian Hills will return to action Thursday afternoon at R.L. Hellyer Field in Ottumwa against North Central Missouri College.
