OGASAWARA'S HAT TRICK POWERS NO. 17 WARRIORS

Ottumwa, IA – Another offensive outburst lifted the No. 17 Indian Hills Women's Soccer team on Sunday afternoon as the Warriors topped Lincoln Land Community College (IL) 10-1 at the Indian Hills Classic at Schafer Stadium. The Warriors remain undefeated at 4-0-0 on the year.

Sophomore Risa Ogasawara (Yokohama, Japan/Hinomoto) served as the offensive catalyst for the Warriors with three goals on the day, her first-career hat trick. Seven different Warriors contributed goals as head coach Anthony Longo's program has now scored at least eight goals in all four matches this season. The Warriors have scored 38 total goals on the year, tops in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Women's Soccer ranks.

Ogasawara paced the offense from the get-go on Sunday, scoring two goals within the first 10 minutes of play. The sophomore's first mark came in the third minute off a rebound from Ikumi Okumura (Edogawa, Japan/Murata). A threat from anywhere inside midfield, Ogasawara connected on a direct kick from 25 yards out to put the Warriors up 2-0.

Okumura was on the receiving end of a long cross from Mifumi Sasanuma in the 13th minute to make it 3-0. Sophomore KJ Schmidt (Cedar Rapids, IA/Washington) found a streaking Autumn Burland (Polson, MT/Polson) for the 4-0 lead. The Loggers got a goal back in the 33rd minute, but a goal from Georgie Lewis (Bowral, Australia/Bowral), her second of the season, regained the four-goal advantage in the 36th minute.

Ogasawara capped her hat trick in the 55th minute, once again coming from a direct kick. Okumura and Seira Uko (Toba City, Japan/Jumonji) teamed up for a precise give-and-go in the box for Uko's first score of the season in the 62nd minute. The nation's leading scorer, Bailey Wiemann (Burlington, IA/Burlington) scored a goal in the 64th minute for an 8-1 lead. Chiaki Ota (Chigasaki, Japan/Ninomiya) and Emma Zillig (Muscatine, IA/Muscatine) each recorded their first-career goals in the final 25 minutes to seal the victory for the Warriors.

Following another stellar display on offense, the Warriors remain dotted across both the team and individual national leaderboards. Wiemann's six goals, 18 points, six assists, and 21 shots all rank first among the nation's leaders. Ogasawara ranks second behind Wiemann in all four categories with five goals, 15 points, five assists, and 16 shots.

While the offense has starred in the headlines, the defense has maintained a stingy 0.50 goals against average, anchored by the likes of Hope Ward (Burlington, IA/Burlington Notre Dame), Abbie Bailey (Redditch, England/Arrowvale), Ota, and keeper Trisha Westphal (Lockridge, IA/Fairfield). The team's two shutouts are tied for first in the nation.

Next up for Indian Hills is a trip to Burlington, IA to take on Southeastern Community College at 1:00 PM on Sept. 1
