Volleyball Team Knocked out of District Tourney

Council Bluffs -- Indian Hills saw its season come to a close on Saturday when John A. Logan CC defeated the Warriors in the District D Super Regionals. IHCC had stayed alive in the double-elimination tourney with a 3-0 win over Black Hawk College earlier in the day.

Sophomore Peyton Crosser did all she could to keep the Warriors in the tournament in the match with John A. Logan. Crosser had a monster performance with 21 kills and 10 blocks while hitting 37-of-40. She got help from classmate Shelby Lauterbach, who eight kills and a team-high 20 digs.

After dropping the first two sets to the Volunteers, the Warriors battled back to win the third set 25-21 before being edged 25-23 in the fourth.

IHCC split two matches on Friday, beating Kaskaskia CC in three sets, then falling to Lake Land CC in four sets. The Warriors followed their sweep of Kaskaskia with a solid 25-15 win in the first set with Lake Land, but couldn't sustain the momentum and lost the next three sets.

Crosser had double figures in kills in all four matches on the weekend, getting 13, 10, 13 and 21.

Kassidy Guihan, one of four sophs along with Crosser, Lauterbach and Kaylee Scholten, had 62 digs. Freshman Mirela Vasconcelos had 28 blocks, 10 of those against Lake Land.

Other highlights of the tournament for the Warriors were five ace serves in the match with Black Hawk for Marlee Lindstrom and 132 assists for setter Katie Soddy.
