IHCC NETS THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

IHCC NETS THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

OTTUMWA, IA – Things feel like they are starting to come together for the Indian Hills Volleyball team.

After a slow start to the season that saw the Warriors fall to 1-5 after six contests, IHCC now has three-straight victories after a pair of wins on Saturday in Kansas combined with Wednesday night's four-set win over ICCAC opponent Iowa Central (25-18, 25-15, 21-25, 25-13), who came into the Hellyer Center as winners of 10-of-11 matches to start the season.

Indian Hills, now 4-5 overall and 2-3 in league play, sent a message to the red-hot Tritons from the jump on Wednesday as the Warriors won the first two sets with comfortable 25-18 and 25-15 scores.

The last time the Warriors were on the floor at Hellyer, it was a similar scenario as IHCC sprinted out to a 2-0 lead over visiting DMACC, only to see the Bears storm back to win three-straight and escape with a stunning victory.

There would be no such second act for coach Lyndsey Michel's ladies this time around, however, as the Warriors, after dropping the third set 25-18, knuckled down and hammered out a dominating 25-13 clincher in the fourth stanza.

"Our group effort just keeps getting better," Michel added after the win. "It was outstanding volleyball. It's great to see four hitters in double digits."

Precious Daley continues her emergence in the IHCC offense as she led the Warrior attack with 17 kills.  Season-long stalwart Gabriela Cavalcante Oliveira was right behind with 15.  Jenna Vallee and Jarolin de los Santos chipped in 12 and 11, respectively.

Cassia Lemos is getting back to her form from a year ago, where she piloted the Warrior offense to the National Tournament, as the sophomore setter dished out 58 assists to the array of IHCC front row hitters.  Libero Anja Vranic drew praise from her coach after leading the Warriors with 19 digs.

"Anja is working hard with her fellow defenders in the back row," Michel said.  "Where the ball is going, that's where we want Anja to be as we move ahead this season."

Indian Hills will try for a fourth-straight victory tomorrow evening as the Warriors host Southwestern, which picked up its first win of the season Wednesday night against Southeastern in Creston.  The Spartans are led by former Michel assistant Shaela (Hayden) Camp.

"We will continue to focus on getting over the 20-point slump that plagued us early on this year, and finish sets.  We will focus on the finishing in three sets." Michel concluded.

First serve is set for 5 p.m. against SWCC.
