NO. 11 WARRIORS BATTLE WITH NO. 2 IOWA WESTERN

Ottumwa, IA – No. 11 Indian Hills Volleyball put up a fight against No. 2 Iowa Western Community College on Wednesday night, but the Warriors fell short, 3-1 at the Hellyer Center. Indian Hills falls to 12-2 on the year, snapping the team's 11-match win streak.

In front of a packed crowd, the Warriors went toe-to-toe with the second-ranked Reivers early on in the match. Indian Hills dropped a close opening set, 25-22, before rallying for a 27-25 win in set two. Iowa Western prevailed down the stretch to take the final two sets 25-14 and 25-18.

The Warriors were led offensively by Jarolin de los Santos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Luis Munoz Rivera) and Hennesys Lalane (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Colegio Luis Munox Rivera) who totaled eight kills apiece. Brooke Amann (Woodstock, IL/South Dakota State) and Haleigh Hadley (Gilbert, IA/Iowa State) each added seven kills for the home team.

Erica Calderon Rosario (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Salome Urena de Henriquez) provided a spark off the bench for the Warriors and totaled six blocks on the night. Sophomore Precious Daley (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) added eight total blocks and four kills. Anja Vranic (Belgrade, Serbia/Sports Gymnasium) tallied a team-high 22 digs in the loss.

The nationally ranked matchup provided all of the theatrics early on with a thrilling rally in the opening frame to set the tone. Daley and Amann stopped a shot at the net to tie the opening set at eight apiece. Both sides traded points midway through the frame, but Iowa Western held off a late Indian Hills run down the stretch for the first win of the night.

Iowa Western jumped out to a 15-6 edge in set two, but the Warriors strung together a dominant run to get back into the match. Rosario's boost off the bench resulted in back-to-back points behind a block and kill to spark the Warriors. A kill from Amann tied the set at 17-all and eventually forced the Reivers into a timeout. de los Santos added two big kills late before three straight blocks, two from Rosario and a third from Amann finished off the Reivers to tie the match at one aside.

Indian Hills opened set three with an initial lead, but the Reivers rebounded to pull away, scoring the final five points to take a 2-1 match lead.

Lalane gave the Warriors a boost early in the fourth set, finding open spots across the net for back-to-back kills and a 5-4 Warrior lead. Indian Hills led 10-8, but the Reivers stayed within striking distance. A late surge from Iowa Western proved to be the difference maker as the Reivers held on to take the win.

The Warriors head to Tyler, TX for the TJC Invite on Friday. The two-day tournament opens up with a match vs. Blinn College (TX) at 11:00 AM on Friday, followed by a date with host Tyler Junior College (TX) at 5:00 PM. The Warriors finish the weekend with a match against Missouri State-West Plains at 10:00 AM Saturday.
