WARRIORS GO 1-1 AT DMACC TOURNAMENT

Boone, IA – No. 14 Indian Hills Volleyball split a pair of matches at the DMACC Tournament on Saturday, falling in the opener 3-1 to Parkland College (IL) before rallying for a 3-0 sweep of Iowa Central Community College in the nightcap.

The Warriors move to 19-7 on the year after the split in Boone. Indian Hills saw its 10-match win streak come to an end with a hard-fought, four-set loss to Parkland, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23, and 26-24. The Warriors bounced back vs. Iowa Central to pick a competitive three-set win, 25-23, 25-21, 26-24.

Competing against perennial National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DII Volleyball power Parkland in Saturday's opener, the Warriors put together a valiant effort despite coming up short vs. the Cobras. Sophomore Kinga Michalska (Szówsko, Poland/ZSSCHiO) powered the Warriors on offense with a career-high 25 kills on 55 attempts. Sara Van Gisteren (Leuth, Netherlands/Young Talent Academy ROC Nijmegen), this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, added 16 kills and a career-high 21 digs for the double-double. Gabriela Bieniek (Rzeszow, Poland/VLO Rzeszow) chipped in 11 kills on 20 attacks for the Warriors.

The ICCAC Defensive Player of the Week, Sabrina Nogueira Da Silva (São Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Campos Salles) totaled 22 digs while Sasha Vidal (Asunción, Paraguay/Trinity School) added 10 for the Warriors. As a team, the Warriors totaled 77 digs in the match, second-most in a single contest this year.

Freshman Ana Carolina Westerich (Blumenau, Brazil/Colégio Energia) recorded a career-high 60 assists vs. the Cobras while adding two kills, two service aces, and seven digs to fill the stat sheet.

The Warriors rallied in the tournament finale against Iowa Central as Michalska put together another dominant performance for the Warriors. The sophomore tallied 15 kills on 34 attempts for a .382 hitting percentage. Van Gisteren added seven kills while Bieniek recorded six more for Indian Hills.

Nogueira Da Silva added a team-high 19 digs while collecting three service aces for the Warriors.

Westerich once again paced the offense with 34 assists in the win.

The Warriors return to action October 11 with an ICCAC showdown at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA.
