DA SILVA, MICHALSKA SWEEP ICCAC HONORS

Ottumwa, IA – For the third time this season, the No. 18 Indian Hills Volleyball squad swept the weekly Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Volleyball Athlete of the Week awards. Sophomore Kinga Michalska (Szówsko, Poland/ZSSCHiO) and freshman Sabrina Nogueira Da Silva (São Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Campos Salles) racked up the weekly honors for the Warriors.

The duo collects their second consecutive weekly award after sweeping the accolades last week. Da Silva has now collected four ICCAC DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week awards in her inaugural campaign in Ottumwa while Michalska has earned a pair of ICCAC DI Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week honors and three throughout her two-year career at Indian Hills.

Led by the combination of Michalska and Da Silva, the Warriors went 4-1 on the court last week, including a 3-0 sweep over Iowa Western Community College to capture the ICCAC regular season series with the Reivers and clinch home court advantage for the upcoming National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball Midwest District Tournament. The Warriors also posted a 3-1 record at the Mineral Area College Tournament in Park Hills, MO over the weekend.

Michalska lit up the stat sheet on the offensive front, eclipsing the 800-career kill mark to become the first Warrior to do so since 2019. The outside hitter averaged 19.2 kills/match last week, including a career-high mark of 27 in a 3-2 win over Missouri State University – West Plains to go along with 11 digs for the double-double. Michalska closed out the week with three consecutive 20-plus kill matches and now ranks third in the nation with 426 kills on the year.

Defensively, Da Silva was a force for the Warriors, totaling 116 digs over the course of the week for an average of 6.1 digs/set. The freshman libero closed out the week with four consecutive 20-plus dig matches, including two contests with a career-high 28 to lead the Warriors. Da Silva has now recorded double-digit dig totals in 18 consecutive matches and ranks 10th nationally with 499 on the year.

The Warriors are back in action at the Hellyer Center Wednesday night for a 5:00 PM matchup with Jefferson College (MO) before hosting Southwestern Community College at 7:00 PM on Friday night.
