Ottumwa, IA – Sophomores Sara Van Gisteren (Leuth, Netherlands/Young Talent Academy ROC Nijmegen) and Sabrina Nogueira Da Silva (São Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Campos Salles) have been named Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Volleyball Athletes of the Week after leading the Warriors to three wins over the weekend.
The sophomore duo, both who were named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 11 team last year, opened up their second season at Indian Hills in dominant fashion at the NMMI Classic in Roswell, NM. The Warriors posted a 3-1 record overall, including a win over No. 7 Weatherford College (TX).
Van Gisteren lands her third ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor in her Indian Hills career after posting 79 kills in the first four matches of the year. The 79 kills were the most in the nation heading into the new week. Van Gisteren tallied a career-high 29 kills in the upset of No. 7 Weatherford and added another 19 kills in a tight five-set loss to No. 8 Odessa College (TX). Van Gisteren is coming off an All-American season as a freshman where she ranked 12th in the nation in total kills.
Da Silva controlled the defensive front over the weekend for the Warriors, corralling a team-high 92 digs, the top mark in the NJCAA through the opening weekend of play. Da Silva posted a career-high 32 digs against Weatherford and added another 24 against Odessa.
The duo followed up their impressive weekend with another victory Tuesday night against DMACC at the Hellyer Center.

Indian Hills returns to action Wednesday night with its first true road matchup at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
