Ottumwa, IA – The No. 10 nationally ranked Indian Hills Volleyball squad once again swept the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) weekly honors as sophomores Sara Van Gisteren (Leuth, Netherlands/Young Talent Academy ROC Nijmegen) and Sabrina Nogueira Da Silva (São Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Campos Salles) have been tapped as the conference's DI Volleyball Athletes of the Week.
The sophomore duo helped lead the Warriors to a pair of 3-0 sweeps last week to move to 9-3 overall on the year. Indian Hills has now won 12 of its last 13 sets played to jump back into the top-10 in this week's National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball top-10.
Van Gisteren lands her third consecutive honor to start the year and her fifth-career ICCAC weekly accolade. Van Gisteren tallied 31 kills in the two wins last week while posting a .350 hitting percentage. Van Gisteren added six total blocks and 12 digs for the all-around performance for the Warriors.
On the year, the returning All-American ranks fifth nationally with 186 kills on the year.
Da Silva has been named the ICCAC DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week twice this year, and seven times throughout her Indian Hills career. The sophomore tallied 34 digs as the team's primary libero, including a week-high 18 on the road at Jefferson College (MO).
Da Silva, the Indian Hills Hy-Vee Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of August, is one of just 12 players in the nation to currently average at lest five digs a set while the sophomore's 235 digs rank sixth overall among all NJCAA competitors.
Indian Hills returns to action Wednesday night at the Hellyer Center with a home date vs. Carl Sandburg College (IL) at 6:00 PM.
Following its home date with Carl Sandburg, the Warriors are set to take on an ultra-competitive schedule this weekend at the annual Sheila Worley Invitational in Sterling, CO. Indian Hills will take on the likes of No. 4 Barton, No. 6 and tournament host Northeastern Junior College (CO), No. 15 New Mexico Junior College, and Laramie County Community College (WY).
