Personal Bests for IHCC Women in Missouri

Southern Stampede

Joplin, Missouri -- The Indian Hills women's cross country team had a strong showing in the program's first-ever trip to the Southern Stampede on Saturday.  Competing against a number of NCAA and NAIA schools in a meet hosted by Missouri Southern State University, the Warriors had all four runners clock in under 23 minutes.

Halley Wilmes led the way, finishing the 5,000 meter course in 63rd place in a time of 21:33.  This was a 74-second personal-best time for the sophomore.  The duo of Shiggo Shadin and Morgan Lawson was close behind, crossing the finish line in 72nd and 73rd place, respectively.  Shadin's time was 21:47 and Lawson's was 21:50.  Those were also personal-bests for the two by a wide margin.  Ceyda Nazli rounded out the IHCC results with her time of 22:51, good for 92nd place.

Indian Hills coach Brent Ewing said, "This was by far the best collective finish for the top-four runners our program has ever seen.  The coaching staff was very impressed with how well the women competed.  They did a great job of 'packing up' early on and working together.  I'm very happy with their progress with our postseason just five weeks away."

Next up for the IHCC women is the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational in Rock Island, Ill., on Oct. 4.
