IHCC WOMEN'S GOLF RECEIVES SPORT OPPORTUNITY GRANT

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Community College Athletic Department has been awarded a Sport Opportunity Grant through the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Foundation to assist in the addition of its newest athletic program, women's golf.

"We appreciate the opportunity to work with the NJCAA Foundation and their willingness to support our latest addition to Warrior Athletics in women's golf," stated Dr. Brett Monaghan, Indian Hills Vice President, Student Development & Operations and Athletic Director. "These dollars will greatly assist in getting this program off the ground and provide an opportunity to young women to compete in golf at the two-year intercollegiate athletic level."

In collaboration with the Indian Hills grants and compliance office, Indian Hills Athletics was awarded a $1,500 grant through the NJCAA Foundation as the women's golf program seeks to begin its first year of competition in the fall of 2024. The grant will provide a number of opportunities for future Warrior golfers as it relates to scholarships, recruiting efforts, and further work to build the program from its initial stage.

The addition of women's golf expands Indian Hills' varsity sport offering to 19 intercollegiate programs. The Warriors will join more than 90 women's golf programs from around the NJCAA, including more than 60 at the Division I level. The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) currently features eight programs competing at the Division I level. Along with the addition of the women's program, Indian Hills offers a highly competitive men's golf team that has won seven NJCAA National Championships since 2000, including the 2023 NJCAA DI Men's Golf title.

"Two-year collegiate sports provide student-athletes with the opportunity to further both their athletic and academic careers," said Brian Luckett, NJCAA Foundation Executive Director. "The NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant affords the NJCAA Foundation a pathway to continue supporting student-athletes and the member colleges who provide them with these incredible opportunities while also promoting continued growth and development throughout the organization."

Indian Hills was one of 10 institutions throughout the NJCAA to receive a Soprt Opportunity Grant.

Created in 2021, the NJCAA Foundation Sport Opportunity Grant is available to NJCAA member colleges as they expand sport offerings at their institution while increasing student-athlete access and achievement.

A national search for the first Indian Hills Women's Golf Head Coach is underway.
