CERETO LEADS WARRIORS TO 5TH PLACE FINISH

Wichita, KS – No. 10 Indian Hills Men’s Golf placed fifth overall at the 2022 Grier Jones Shocker Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors posted a 24-over 876 to finish as the second junior college team in the event.

Freshman Edouard Cereto (Béziers, France/Lycee Jean Moulin) led the Warrior golfers through the two-day, 54-hole event. Cereto posted a 4-over 217 to place to finish in a six-way tie for 10th place. Freshman Taimur Malik (Nairobi, Kenya/Braeburn Garden Estate), the two-time reigning Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men’s Golfer of the Week, posted a 6-over 219 to tie for 20th in the event.

In a field of primarily four-year NCAA Division I programs, the Warriors were one of two National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) programs to compete. The Warriors fell just shy of No. 1 nationally ranked and two-time defending national champions Hutchinson Community College (KS). The Blue Dragons finished one spot ahead of Indian Hills with a 20-over 872.

Cereto opened up the tournament with a first round 72 before firing a 1-under 70 in the second round. Cereto cooled off in the final round with a 4-over, but managed to maintain a top-10 finish. The freshman tallied eight birdies and an eagle over the three rounds of action.

Malik got off to a strong start with a 2-under 69 in the opening round on Monday to lead his top-20 finish. Malik tallied the second-most pars of the event with 38 while adding five birdies for the Warriors.

The Warriors placed three additional golfers inside the top-40. Sophomore Damian Osner (George, South Africa/Glenwood House) fired a 222, including a low of 73 in the final round. Njoroge Kibugu (Nairobi, Kenya/Saint Austin's Academy) and Mitchell Revie (Queensland, Australia/Robina State) tied for 37th place with an 11-over 224.

Tuesday’s round marked the final regular season event of the fall season for the Warriors. Indian Hills will host an alumni exhibition match, dubbed the Warrior Cup at the Ottumwa Golf Club on October 21.

The spring season resumes for the Warriors on March 13.
