Ottumwa, IA – The defending national champion opened up his title defense in impressive fashion as Jose Miguel Ramirez (Maturin, Venezuela/Alejandro De Humboldt) was named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men's Golfer of the Week.

Ramirez, the 2023 NJCAA DI Men's Golf National Champion, opened up the new year at the Folds of Honor Challenge at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, MI. Despite a weather-shortened event that spanned just two rounds, Ramirez made his presence felt as the sophomore placed second overall with a 2-under 140 in 36 holes of action.

Ramirez tied for a tournament-low round of 66 in the second round on Sunday to pull within the top of the leaderboard. The sophomore birdied his first hole of the third round before play was cancelled due to weather.

Ramirez recorded birdies on four of six par 5's throughout the first two rounds. Last year's national medalist tied for the tournament lead with 11 birdies.

As a team, the Warriors placed fourth overall with a 14-over 582.

Indian Hills is back in action September 25-26 at the Zach Johnson Invitational at Glen Oaks Golf Club in Des Moines, IA.
