Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Gaspar Glaudas (Sainte Tulle, France/Shattuck St-Mary's) collected his sixth Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week honor on Tuesday after dominating the field at a pair of events last week.
Glaudas, the No. 1 ranked golfer in the nation, led the Warriors in two separate events over the span of six days last week. Glaudas took home medalist honors as the top individual at the WIU Intercollegiate in Silvis, IL at TPC Deere Run over the weekend after posted a third-place finish in a weather-shortened Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational on Monday.
Glaudas' remarkable sophomore campaign continued to be one for the record books after an impressive showing at two high-level courses last week. In the opener at the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invite at Highland Country Club in Indianapolis, IN, Glaudas shot a 3-under 137 through two rounds before the third and final round was continued. Glaudas finished in fifth place after shooting a 67 in the second round to close out the day. As a team, the Warriors placed third overall in the 14-team field of four-year universities.
Glaudas capped the week with one of his most impressive showings of his collegiate career. Competing at TPC Deere Run, home to the PGA's John Deere Classic, Glaudas fired a 10-under 203, 12 strokes ahead of the second-place finisher as the Warriors cruised to a 22-stroke victory over a primary field of NCAA DI opponents.
Glaudas posted all three rounds in the 60's at TPC, posting rounds of 68-67-68-203 to finish as the only golfer under par. The sophomore collected a tournament-best 14 birdies to run away with the victory, his second individual title of the year.
Glauda, who continues to lead the individual national rankings by a wide margin, has now captured six ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors this season.
The Warriors return to action at the Highland Meadows Intercollegiate in Sylvania, OH April 15-16, the team's final regular season tuneup before postseason action gets underway.
