Career Bests for 6 as IHCC Men Run at Rock Island

Brissman-Lundeen

Rock Island, Illinois -- In a meet that Indian Hills has been competing in since the start of its cross country program, IHCC joined 20 other teams and more than 250 individuals in the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational on Friday.

The event was run over an 8K course at the Saukie Golf Course and the meet was hosted by Augustana University.

According to Indian Hills coach Brent Ewing, the IHCC men demonstratated that they are a legitimate top-25 team at the junior college level with their performance.  Six Warrors established new career bests at the distance and the sophomores who ran were considerably faster than their times from the same meet a year ago.

Conner Riley, Ethan Mesenbrink, Cade Curphy, Seth Kilborn, Ben Oliver and Jacob Glandon were the IHCC runners with career-best times.  Of the sophs, Riley went from 29:42 last year to 27:01, Zach Schocker went from 28:25 to 27:30 and Kilborn dropped his time from 29:04 to 28:46.

Micha Reed ran just his second race of the fall -- his first 8K -- and finished as the fourth IHCC runner.

"Seeing the sophomores' improvement from last year is a testament to the training that coach (Derek) Wilson is implementing and to the hard work they're putting in," said coach Ewing.

The IHCC men will have one last chance to compete before they host the Region XI Championships at the end of the month.  That will come this Friday at the Trent Smith Invite hosted by NIACC.
