SOFTBALL WRAPS UP FOUR-GAME SWEEP

Ottumwa, IA – Indian Hills Softball used a pair of stellar pitching performances back by strong offensive attacks to sweep Rock Valley College (IL) 8-1 and 9-1 on Sunday afternoon. The two wins game the Warriors a four-game sweep of the Golden Eagles.

Indian Hills moves to 18-6 overall on the year and have now won 11 consecutive games. The Warriors outscored the Golden Eagles 31-11 on the weekend and pounded out 38 hits along the way.

The Warriors, who scored seven runs in the first inning between the two games on Saturday afternoon, struck first once again on Sunday with three runs to take the early lead. Claire Tipton (Unionville, MO/Putnam County) delivered a solo home run before a Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) double scored Tatum Aragon (Fort Collins, CO/Fort Collins). Freshman Hannah Simpson (Fairfield, IA/Fairfield) delivered a solo home run for the 3-1 lead.

An RBI single from Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) scored Abby Martin (Lamoni, IA/Lamoni) to extend the lead in the third. The Warriors used a four-run fifth inning to pull away from the Golden Eagles as Jensyn Jones (Swisher, IA/Cedar Rapids Prairie) and Anderson delivered back-to-back home runs for a 7-1 lead. Tipton added an RBI single in the frame to close out the scoring.

Sophomore Madie Anderson (Mt. Pleasant, IA/Winfield Mt. Union) was once again dominant in the circle as the righty moved to 7-2 on the year with the win. Anderson struck out six and allowed just three hits in the victory. The sophomore has now produced a 0.96 earned run average over her last 36.1 innings of work.

In the series finale, it was Rock Valley that struck first with a single run in the second. The Golden Eagles kept the potent Warrior offense off the board until the foufth where Simpson scored on an error for the equalizer.

After keeping the Golden Eagles scoreless through five frames, the Warriors broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth with eight runs to force the run-rule victory. Sydney Anderson delivered the big hit of the inning with a grand slam.

Ryann Cheek (Eldridge, IA/North Scott) picked up the win in the circle with just one unearned run allowed. The sophomore left struck out five and allowed just one base hit in the win.

Indian Hills is back in action at home on Wednesday afternoon with a conference doubleheader vs. Southwestern Community College at 2:00 PM.
