WARRIORS SET TOP MARKS IN AMES, IOWA CITY

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Women's Track & Field squad took on a pair of in-state meets over the weekend with a number of impressive performances at the Cyclone Open in Ames, IA and the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City, IA.

The Warriors were led by multiple personal best efforts, including two individuals who starred at each of the events on separate days. Both Destiny Mitchell (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Riverside) and Tiffani Koonce (Prairie City, IA/Prairie City-Monroe) put together strong showings on Friday in Ames before leaving their mark at the University of Iowa on Saturday.

Koonce's breakout freshman season saw two more school records over the weekend, making it a perfect 5-5 on the year with five school records in five races. On Friday at the Cyclone Open, Koonce broke her own school record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:43.38, breaking her previous mark by nearly 10 seconds. Koonce made the trek to Iowa City on Saturday and broke her own school record in the mile with a time of 5:20.43, the 12th fastest time in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) this year.

Mitchell led the Warriors in the 60-meter dash at both the Cyclone Open on Friday and the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Saturday. In Ames, Mitchell opened her weekend with a personal best time of 7.64 in the prelims before posting a second-place finish with a 7.64 in the finals. The sophomore followed up on Saturday in Iowa City with a 7.64 in the prelims before posting a new personal-best mark of 7.62 in the 60m finals. Mitchell's new mark currently ranks 10th in the nation this year.

Sophomore All-American Dymonde Nave (Sioux Falls, SD/Sioux Falls Lincoln) put together two strong showings for the Warriors at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational. Nave ran her second-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles event in the prelims with a mark of 8.57. Nave followed up with her season debut in the long jump, posting a personal-best mark of 5.40 to place sixth overall.

In Iowa City, the women's 4x400m relay squad posted a season's best performance with a time of 3:52.23 to qualify for the upcoming national championships. The quartet of Nyla Norman (Evansdale, IA/Waterloo East), Laurie Louis (Miami, FL/North Miami), Alexa Zanders (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West), and Nave placed sixth overall with the seventh fastest time in the NJCAA this year.

Norman added an impressive individual performance for the Warriors on Friday in Ames. The sophomore took home a third-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 24.98 to collect her third top-five finish of the year.

Louis and Zanders finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 400m dash at the Cyclone Open on Friday. Louis clocked in with a time of 58.06 while Zanders added a personal best time of 58.15.

Freshman Cynthia Albert (Eldon, IA/Cardinal) posted a personal-best mark in the women's weight throw at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational with a distance of 12.50m.

Indian Hills' indoor season is in full swing as the Warriors continue their march to the national championship in March. Next up is the Washburn Open January 31 - February 1 in Topeka, KS.
