MITCHELL, KOONCE LEAD WARRIORS AT IOWA STATE CLASSIC

Ames, IA – The No. 13 nationally ranked Indian Hills Women's Track and Field squad took on the Iowa State Classic on Saturday. The Warriors produced multiple school records and top-five all-time performances in Ames.

Sophomore Destiny Mitchell (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Riverside) starred in the women's 60-meter dash with a pair of dominant performances for the Warriors. Mitchell clocked a personal-best time of 7.57 in the prelims before upping her performance in the finals with a mark of 7.55, the fourth-fastest time in school history. Mitchell's performance was good enough for second overall in a field of more than 30 competitors.

Mitchel was joined in the 60m by fellow sophomore Zekira Snow (Brandon, FL/Bloomingdale) who took home a fourth-place finish for the Warriors. Snow qualified for the finals with a time of 7.70 in the opening round before placing fourth overall with a mark of 7.62 in the finals. Snow's time was just 0.02 seconds off of her personal-best mark.

Powered by both Mitchell and Snow, the Warriors entered the week with the No. 2 nationally ranked 60m squad in the nation with an average time of 7.67, just 0.03 behind No. 1 ranked Barton Community College (KS).

Freshman Tiffani Koonce (Prairie City, IA/Prairie City-Monroe) continued an unprecedented stretch in the distance events for the Warriors. Koonce set a school record for the seventh consecutive race after shattering her own program record in the women's 3,000m run. Koonce shaved 10 seconds off of her previous record to finish the event with a mark of 10:33.58

Along with Koonce, freshman Riley Vogel (Festus, MO/Festus) climbed the record books in the 3,000m run with a 25 second personal best mark. Vogel posted a time of 11:35.96, a 57 second improvement from the team's season opener in December. Vogel's time on Saturday ranks third all-time in school history.

Freshman Cynthia Albert (Eldon, IA/Cardinal) upped her school-record performance in the women's weight throw with a strong effort on Saturday. Albert recorded a mark of 12.90m, 0.40m ahead of her previous personal-best and school record set back on January 25.

The Warriors are back in action February 14-15 at the 10th Annual Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, KS.
