INDIAN HILLS HY-VEE FEMALE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Athletic Department has announced its Hy-Vee November Female Student-Athlete of the Month. Freshman Tiffani Koonce (Prairie City, IA/Prairie City-Monroe) of the Indian Hills Women's Cross Country team has been honored for her academic and athletic success.

In her debut season, Koonce capped a remarkable freshman campaign with a historic performance at the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Women's Cross Country National Championship in Richmond, VA. Competing at Pole Green Park, Koonce posted a time of 19:01.1, the second-fastest time in school history at the national meet. The freshman's time was good enough for a 48th-place finish, which serves as the third-highest finish all-time for the Warriors. Koonce, who led the Warriors in each of the team's six meets this year, was just eight seconds shy of a personal-best performance.

Koonce, who is also a member of the Indian Hills Women's Track & Field program, has gotten off to a strong start in the indoor season. Koonce set the Indian Hills women's school record in the indoor mile in the season opener at the Washburn Alumni Invite. Koonce shattered the previous mark by 26 seconds with a time of 5:21.85.

Koonce is a Dental Hygiene major at Indian Hills.

Each month, with the support of the local Ottumwa Hy-Vee, the Indian Hills Athletic Department selects a male and female student-athlete of the month based on their academic and athletic performances throughout the previous month. Fans can catch interviews of each student-athlete from Ottumwa's South Hy-Vee on the GoHillsTV Facebook Page.
