FORMER WARRIOR COACH HAGEN EARNS COACHES LEGACY AWARD

Ottumwa, IA – Former Indian Hills Men's Golf Head Coach Mike Hagen has been honored by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) with the Coaches Legacy Award, announced Monday afternoon. The Coaches Legacy Award recognizes the all-time winningest coaches in NJCAA history.

Hagen, who served as head coach of the Warriors from 2006-15, captured four national championships during his run with the Warriors. The program brought home national titles in back-to-back years on two separate occasions – 2011 & 2012, and 2014 & 2015. In his 10 seasons at the helm of the program, Hagen led the Warriors to nine top-10 finishes, including six top-three performances.

Under Hagen's guidance, the program captured eight NJCAA District III Championships, including a title in each of Hagen's final six campaigns. For his efforts, Hagen has been inducted into the Indian Hills Athletics the NJCAA Men's Golf Coaches Association, and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Hall of Fames.

From 2006-15, the Warriors set themselves apart as the premiere junior college golf program. Indian Hills captured 62 tournament wins, including three at the NCAA Division I level. Hagen was named the Dave Williams National Coach of the Year three times, as well as the NJCAA Coach of the Year four times. The Warriors garnered 19 NJCAA All-Americans, 12 PING All-Americans, five PING All-Freshman team members, and two Phil Mickelson Award Winners.

Academically, the Warriors were named an NJCAA Academic Team of the Year eight times.

Following his tenure at Indian Hills, Hagen took over the men's golf program at Arkansas State University where the program has made three NCAA Tournament appearances and has twice been named the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year (2015-16 & 2023-24).

Hagen is one of seven men's golf coaches honored with the award. To be considered for the Coaches Legacy Award, golf coaches must have accumulated at least three national championships at their respective college.

Nearly 200 coaches across 28 different sports were nominated by member colleges in the NJCAA.

All honorees will be recognized at a special luncheon on Tuesday, June 17, in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the Hilton Charlotte University Place Hotel. The luncheon will precede the 2025 NJCAA Hall of Fame and Awards event, scheduled for later that day. Outreach has already begun for honorees and designees regarding attendance.
