Warriors Bounce Back, Drub Red Tails

Men's Soccer starting Line up against Hawkeye Community College

Ottumwa -- After getting knocked from the unbeaten ranks in its previous outing, the No. 5 ranked Indian Hills soccer team had no trouble bouncing back to get an easy victory against Hawkeye CC on Saturday at the IHCC field.  Coming off a loss to Jefferson (Mo.) on Wednesday night the Warriors returned to the win column, thanks to hat tricks from Akean Shackleford and Theodoro di Piero in a 12-0 rout of the RedTails.  It was the second time in the past three games that Indian Hills won 12-0.  The Warriors have scored 39 goals in their first six games.

Indian Hills got the three goal apiece from Shacklford and di Piero and six other players scored.  That included the first goals of the year for Matteus Albuquerque, Wilson Barahona and Aidan Young.  That trio tallied the final three goals in a span of eight minutes to close out the scoring.

"Once gain, we were able to show just how deep we are this season," said IHCC coach Jon Fridal.  "What I like is all of our guys that get a chance to get on the field are playing with the type of hunger that shows just what they're capable of doing and why they should earn more time on the field going forward.  It's easy to keep these guys motivated."

It was Nathaniel Mederos Fonda who got the Warriors on the board, scoring in the 6th minute.  Shackleford had a pair of goals by halftime and di Piero had his first.  The Warriors poured it on the final half with Reshon Phillip getting the opening goal of the half, followed by Shackleford's score just one minute later.

IHCC's onslaught included the first points of the season for Kondjo Zebina and Lucas Nappi, who had assists, and Albuquerque and Young with their first goals of the fall.

Shackleford had 10 of IHCC's 34 shots.  Hawkeye was held to just two shots.  Gabriel Ivlev and Ross Dalton shared the goalkeeper duties for Indian Hills.

Indian Hills travels to Mason City to take on NIACC next Saturday, looking to improve on its 2-0 league record.
