Warriors Edged by MCC

MSOC at MCC

Marshalltown, Iowa -- It's not surprising that a battle between two of the top teams in the ICCAC was decided by a single goal.  Marshalltown's Roger De la Villa got that goal, with around five minutes remaining, and it allowed MCC to escape with a 2-1 win over Indian Hills at the Tigers' field on Wednesday.

The result leaves the 5th-ranked Warriors with a 6-1 league record -- they are 12-2 overall.  Marshalltown, rated 14th this week, is 11-1 and tied with IHCC in the ICCAC at 6-1.

De la Villa took a pass from MCC's Kino Ryosuke and beat IHCC goalkeeper Ross Dalton for the game-winner in the 85th minute.  The Tigers' Rafael Vacas had tied the score at 1-all with a goal about 12 minutes earlier.

Indian Hills' Akean Shackleford added to his nation-leading goal total with his 27th late in the first half to provide the visitors with a 1-0 lead, which stood up until MCC got on the board after nearly 73 minutes of action.  Theodoro di Piero assisted on the Shackleford goal.

It was a defensive struggle with the two teams combining for only 13 shots on goal.  Dalton had six saves for IHCC; Juan Gonzalez stopped four Warrior attempts on goal.

Indian Hills will take on Iowa Central at home on Saturday.  The Warriors then go on the road to Cloud County (Kans.) and Scott CC next week to conclude the regular season.
