Warriors Grab Share of Conference Title

MEN'S SOCCER

Bettendorf, Iowa -- Indian Hills jumped out to a 2-0 first-half lead on goals just five minutes apart and then finished off Scott CC with a pair of scores by Nathaniel Mederos Fonda in the second half as the Warriors clinched at least a piece of the ICCAC regular season championship with a 5-0 blanking on Saturday.  With the win, Indian Hills ended the league schedule with an 8-1 mark.  Iowa Western knocked off Marshalltown, 1-0, on Sunday to put its record at 7-1 with a contest at Hawkeye still remaining.  A victory by Iowa Western would leave them with an identical ICCAC record to Indian Hills, but the Warriors would get the first-round bye in the tournament by virtue of their 2-1 regular season win over IWCC.

Against Scott, IHCC's Tajay Reid knocked home his first goal of the year to start the scoring in the 29th minute.  Joao Gabriel Andrade and Craig Brand assisted on the Reid score.

Akean Shackleford tallied his 30th goal of the year five minutes later, assisted by Reshon Phillip, to make it 2-0.

Phillip, with an assist from Brand, found the back of the net in the second half for his 11th goal and then Fonda recorded two consecutive goals, only about three minutes apart.  It was Fonda's second two-goal game in the last three contests and gives him 11 for the season.  He is the fourth IHCC player with a double-figure goal total.  Leandro Oshiro and Christopher Thorpe were credited with the assists on Fonda's pair of goals.

Ross Dalton stopped three Scott shots on goal and registered his 5th shutout.

Indian Hills is 15-2 overall and the Warriors have outscored their opponents 88-16.

The Warriors' first postseason test will come on Oct. 31 when they host the winner of this weekend's Iowa Central-NIACC contest.
