Warriors Are Champs!

MSOC vs. IWCC

Des Moines, Iowa -- Second-half goals by Akean Shackleford and Rodrigo Paredes snapped a 1-1 deadlock and allowed Indian Hills to knock off Iowa Western, 3-1, and claim the program's first-ever Region XI postseason tournament title and a berth in the NJCAA national tourney.

The Saturday match at Cownie Soccer Park was tied when Shackleford found the back of the net for his 32nd goal of the season and the 54th of his illustrious two-year IHCC career.  Leandro Oshiro assisted on the goal, and just three minutes later Oshiro had a part in the Paredes goal which gave the Warriors some insurance.  Gabriel Peres also was credited with an assist on IHCC's third goal.  For Paredes, it was just his second goal of the season and his first since the third game of the fall.

Iowa Western's Duhaney Williams had tied the score at 1-all in the opening half.  Nathaniel Mederos Fonda opened up the scoring for Indian Hills in the 11th minute with his 12th goal with an assist from Peres for an early 1-0 advantage.

Warrior goalkeeper Ross Dalton made the two second-half scores stand up with another masterful performance in the net for IHCC, recording five saves.

Indian Hills has won five straight games and 17 overall in 19 starts.  They haven't lost since a 2-1 defeat at Marshalltown.

To show how far the program has come in two years under coach Jon Fridal consider that two years ago Indian Hills was 6-12 and scored only 29 goals all season.  This year's squad has tallied 96 goals on the way to a 17-2 record and will have a chance to add to those marks at the NJCAA Division I National Championship in Prescott, Arizona.  The 12-team event gets underway with pool play on Monday, Nov. 13.  There will be three teams in each of four pools and those matches will be contested the first three days.  The semifinals are slated for Nov. 17 with the championship match the following day.
