IHCC Passes First National Tourney Test

Prescott, Arizona -- A first-half goal by Nathaniel Mederos Fonda was the only score of the game and it allowed Indian Hills to get a win in the program's initial national tournament appearance on Tuesday.  Fonda's 13th goal of the season came in the final minute of the opening half and it stood up as the Warriors edged Louisburg (N.C.) College, 1-0, in Pool D play.

Fonda took advantage of one of the few Indian Hills scoring chances in the first half, his left-footed unassisted goal one of only three shots for IHCC in the opening 45 minutes.  Indian Hills outshot Louisburg, 10-3, in the final half, but was unable to add to its lead.

IHCC goalkeeper Ross Dalton made four saves and his clean sheet was his sixth of the year as he lowered his goals against average of 0.75 coming into the match.

The Warriors now will play Tyler (Texas) Junior College at 6:00 (Central time) on Wednesday with the winner advancing out of pool play and into Friday's semifinals.  Tyler defeated Louisburg, 3-0, on Monday.  That means Louisburg winds up winless in pool play and IHCC and Tyler are both 1-0.  So the winner of the Indian Hills-Tyler matchup will keep their hopes of a national championship alive and the loser will see their season come to an end.
