Shackleford and Dalton Make NJCAA All-American Squad

Ross Dalton and Akean Shackleford

Ottumwa -- Sophomore Akean Shackleford and freshman Ross Dalton were named soccer All-Americans by the National Junior College Athletic Association in selections that were announced on Monday.

It's the second 2017 All-American honor for Shackleford, a first-team choice on the United Soccer Coaches teams revealed last week.  Shackleford, from Savanna-la-Mar, Jamaica, was a first-team pick on the NJCAA list, too, one of 11 players on the top team.

Dalton, a goalkeeper from Liverpool, England, is on the NJCAA's All-American second team.  He had a stellar freshman season for the Warriors, starting 19 of 21 games in goal for a squad that went 18-3 and advanced to the NJCAA national tournament for the first time in school history.  Dalton won 16 matches and had five shutouts, posting a goals-against average of 0.77 and a save percentage of .813.

Shackleford turned in a masterful sophomore campaign, scoring 33 goals, a total that was second in the nation, and adding five assists for 71 points.  He was chosen as the conference player of the year.  Shackleford tallied 22 goals in his first year at Indian Hills when he became IHCC's first men's soccer All-American, a second-team pick.

Both Shackleford and Dalton were named to the ICCAC all-conference first team at the conclusion of this year's postseason tournament, which the Warriors won by beating Iowa Western, 3-1.  They split their two games in pool play at the national tourney, losing to eventual national champ Tyler (Texas).

Shackleford and Mississippi Gulf Coast's Jordan Hall were the only repeat selections from last year's NJCAA All-American teams.  Both moved up from the second team to the first this year.
