BENBELLA'S GOAL CARRIES NO. 17 WARRIORS

Ottumwa, IA – Freshman Nasser Benbella's (Casablanca, Morocco/Al Khansa) first collegiate goal was enough to lift No. 17 Indian Hills Men's Soccer to a 1-0 victory over Marshalltown Community College on the final day of the IHCC Classic Sunday.

The Warriors picked up their second consecutive win to open the season after completing the IHCC Classic undefeated. Indian Hills is 2-0-0 to start the year for the first time since 2019, a team that opened the season 3-0-0 and finished with a 13-3-2 record.

Benbella buried a goal in the 42nd minute to give the Warriors the initial lead, an advantage the home team maintained throughout the duration of the match vs. the Tigers. Benbella's strike from the right side of the net came as a result of a give-and-go with Keigo Yoshida (Yokohoma City, Japan/Yokohoma So-Gakukan) and Alex Rodriguez (Valladoli, Spain/Les Nunez de Arce) who earned their first collegiate assists.

Sophomore Kaz Kromwijk (Schenkeldijk, Netherlands/Stedelijk Dalton Lyceum Kaptynweg) picked up his second collegiate shutout after blanking the visiting Tigers. Kromwijk managed the pace of play from the backline and limited the Tigers' scoring chances on corner kicks. The sophomore moves to 2-0-0 on the year.

The Warriors outshot the Tigers 20-8 on the day, including seven shots on goal.

Indian Hills is set to make its first road trip of the year with a road date on August at Johnson County Community College (KS) in Overland Park, KS as part of a doubleheader with the Indian Hills Women's Soccer team. The women will kick-off at 5:00 PM followed by the men. Both squads will then travel to Jefferson College (MO) in Hillsboro, MO on August 27 for a doubleheader.
