JOSEPH'S GOAL LIFTS WARRIORS OVER NO. 5 REIVERS

Ottumwa, IA – Freshman Aaron Joseph (South Croydon, England/Riddlesdown Collegiate Six Form) tallied his first collegiate goal to lead No. 13 Indian Hills Men's Soccer to a statement win over No. 5 Iowa Western Community College on Saturday afternoon.

In a match that ended with 7:50 remaining in the second half due to unfavorable weather in the Ottumwa area, Joseph's second half goal was all that was needed for the Warriors to score its biggest victory of the 2023 campaign. The win pushes the Warriors to 4-1-2 on the year while the defeat is the first for the Reivers (3-1-1).

In the fifth all-time nationally ranked matchup between the two Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) foes, the Warriors picked up the league win, the first of the year. The goal by Joseph was the first allowed by the Reivers in four matches, snapping a streak of 334:00 without allowing a goal.

Through 82 minutes of action, both sides tallied 10 shots in a highly contested matchup throughout the afternoon. The Warriors fired six shots on net opposed to the Reivers' one shot on target.

Freshman Harvey Sellers (Surrey, England/Ewell Castle), the reigning ICCAC Goalkeeper of the Week, pitched his second consecutive shutout while securing his first collegiate victory.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Warriors provide multiple scoring opportunities, Joseph broke the deadlock at the 62:00 mark in the second half. Making just his fourth appearance of the year, Joseph received a long cross to the right side of the net from freshman Thomas Murrieri (Dijon, France/Lycée Les Arcades). Joseph fired a shot on target on the first touch that beat the Reiver keep for the game's lone goal.

The Warriors held off a late surge from the Reivers before lightning was spotted in the area. After more than an hour delay, the Warriors were declared the winners due to the match reaching the official time limit of 70:00.

Indian Hills has now defeated Iowa Western in consecutive matches after defeating the Reivers in last year's National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Soccer Region XI Championship.

The Warriors will now host Illinois Central Community College in Ottumwa on September 23.
