SEVEN LAND ON ALL-REGION 11 MEN'S SOCCER TEAM

Ottumwa, IA – Seven members of the Indian Hills Men's Soccer squad have been selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Soccer All-Region 11 squad, announced by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) on Wednesday afternoon.

The Warriors, who clinched a trip to the upcoming NJCAA DI Men's Soccer National Tournament in Wichita, KS, were led by sophomore Gustavo Marques (São Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Anglo Indaiatuba) along with freshman Ales Kohoutek (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnázium Litomická), Alex Rodriguez (Valladoli, Spain/Les Nunez de Arce), Daniel Mulero (Asturias, Spain/Salesianos Santo Angel Aviles), Fernando Pirri (Cordoba, Spain/IES Francisco de los Rios), Harvey Sellers (Surrey, England/Ewell Castle), and Lucas Bauer (Oldenburg, Germany/IGS Kreyenbruck).

The Warriors, regular season ICCAC champions and NJCAA Midwest District champions, head to Wichita as the No. 10 seed in the upcoming national tournament with a 9-2-4 overall record with play set to open up Sunday, November 12 at the Stryker Sports Complex.

"Very proud of these student-athletes for being recognized for their achievements this season," stated head coach Felix Vu. "I hope they can use their experiences to shape the next group of Warriors."

In addition to the All-Region 11 selections, Vu was named the NJCAA All-Region 11 Coach of the Year.

Marques earns postseason honors after ranking second on the team with 14 points on the year, tallying five goals and four assists. The sophomore forward currently ranks seventh all-time in school history with 14 career goals and eighth in program history with 34 career points.

Bauer led the Warriors on the year with 15 points to collect All-Region accolades. The freshman tallied five goals and five assists, tallying at least one point in seven contests on the year. Bauer contributed a goal and an assist in the NJCAA Midwest District Tournament for the Warriors. Bauer also led the Warriors with three game-winning goals.

Pirri led all goal scorers with six on the year, including an insurance goal in the NJCAA Midwest District Championship game against No. 12 Iowa Western Community College. Pirri tallied four points overall in the District tournament to lead the Warriors. Pirri joined Marques with 14 points on the year.

Rodriguez paced the Warriors with four assists and four goals on the year for 12 points, third-most on the team. The freshman forward tallied four points a 3-0 win over No. 18 Jefferson College (MO) and added three points in a 7-2 win over Illinois Central Community College.

Mulero sparked the Warriors in the NJCAA Midwest District Tournament with a goal in each round as the freshman posted 10 points overall on the year – three goals and four assists. Mulero added two assists in a 3-0 win over No. 18 Jefferson. The freshman a point in three consecutive contests from August 27-September 3.

Kohoutek helped anchor a defense that ranked 12th in the nation with a 0.87 goals against average, currently the lowest mark in school history while tallying seven shutouts, the second-most in school history.

Sellers served as the last line of defense for the Warriors, making 10 starts in net while allowing just five goals in 817:19 of action. The freshman currently ranks seventh in the nation with a 0.55 goals against average, the lowest mark in school history. The freshman netminder owns a 5-1-4 overall record this season.

The Warriors are set to take on third-seeded Salt Lake Community College (UT) at 3:00 PM on Sunday followed by a 3:00 PM match against sixth-seeded Barton Community College (KS) on Monday. All the action can be seen live on the NJCAA Network.
