Burlington, IA – No. 7 Indian Hills Men's Soccer saw six different players find the back of the net Monday afternoon to lead the Warriors to a 6-0 win over Southeastern Community College. The Warriors remain unbeaten to start the year at 5-0-0.
The Warriors posted their second consecutive 6-0 victory, and third shutout of the year to run past the Blackhawks in their first true road contest of the season. With its fifth consecutive win to open the season, the Warriors are off to their best start in school history.
Monday's match, originally scheduled to be played in Council Bluffs, IA over the weekend, saw a scoreless 33 minutes of action to open the day before the Warriors hit paydirt with the game's first goal. Sophomore Daniel Mulero (Asturias, Spain/Salesianos Santo Angel Aviles) tallied his team-leading third goal of the year for the initial lead.
Raheim Wright (London, England/Cannons) doubled the lead just five minutes later on an assist from Santiago Cardenas (Lima, Peru/Bruno Traverso Damonti) as the Warriors went into halftime on top of the Blackhawks 2-0.
Cardenas put his name in the scoring column in the 63rd minute on assists from Maxwell Tennant (Melbourne, Australia/Emmanuel College) and Diego Lazaro (Laval, Canada/Horizon-Jeunesse). The Warriors continued to build their lead as Francesco Nanni (Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy/Angelo Vegni) scored his first collegiate goal in the 75th minute on an assist from Vittorio Bellesi (Breno, Italy/Olivelli Putelli).
The Warriors extended their lead to 5-0 in the 80th minute as Joseph Redmond (Basingstoke, England/Basingstoke Academy) scored his first career goal on an assist from Lucas Bauer (Oldenburg, Germany/IGS Kreyenbruck), his team-leading fourth helper of the year. Juan Ricuarte (Cali, Colombia/Los Andes) capped the scoring in the 87th minute with his second goal of the year on an assist from Miguel Rivera (Santiago De Cali, Columbia/Instituto Tecnico De Excelencia Empresarial).
As a team, the Indian Hills offense has now tallied 22 goals on the year, tied for the most among all National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Soccer squads to start the season.
The stingy Indian Hills defense once again overpowered their opponent to pitch the shutout. The Warriors, who are one of just five teams in the nation to have played five matches so far in 2024, own a 0.40 goals against average on the year.
Sophomore keeper Bernardo Manzano (Palmas, Brazil/Layton Christian Academy) once again stood tall in net for the Warriors, stopping four shots to secure the victory, improving to 5-0-0 on the year.
The Warriors' road trip continues with a trek to Spencer, IA on Wednesday afternoon to take on Iowa Lakes Community College, the defending NJCAA DII Men's Soccer national champions. Kick-off is set for 1:00 PM.
