NO. 4 WARRIORS DRAW 2-2 WITH LAKERS

Spencer, IA – The No. 4 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Soccer squad drew a 2-2 tie with Iowa Lakes Community College Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors move to 5-0-1 on the year.

In a highly anticipated matchup of cross-division Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) foes, the Warriors tallied a pair of first half goals, but a late strike from the Lakers, ranked No. 1 in the nation in the National Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) DII Men's Soccer poll, proved to be the equalizer. The two sides, both unbeaten heading into the match, earned their first tie of the season.

Indian Hills took the opening lead just eight minutes into the contest on Wednesday as freshman Raheim Wright (London, England/Cannons) tallied his second goal in as many games with a penalty kick in the 8th minute of play. The Lakers responded just over 30 minutes later to knot the score at one apiece.

Seconds before the halftime intermission, sophomore Daniel Mulero (Asturias, Spain/Salesianos Santo Angel Aviles) shocked the Lakers with a free kick strike from nearly 50 yards that caromed off the cross bar and into the back of the net as the Warriors regained a one-goal advantage heading into the break.

The Warriors maintained the lead for a majority of the second half until Iowa Lakes, the defending NJCAA DII National Champions, scored in the 81st minute off a free kick of their own. The two sides went scoreless the rest of the way to end in a 2-2 draw.

Sophomore Bernardo Manzano (Palmas, Brazil/Layton Christian Academy), stopped four shots in net for the Warriors to preserve his unbeaten record on the year.

Mulero's goal was his team-leading fourth of the year. The sophomore midfielder leads the Warriors with 11 points this season.

Following a stretch of six games in 14 days to open the year, the Warriors will welcome a 10-day layoff before returning to action. Next up for Indian Hills is a road trip to Neosho, MO to take on Crowder College (MO) on September 14 at 12:00 PM.
