MULERO STRIKES TWICE, WARRIORS DROP COMETS

Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Daniel Mulero (Asturias, Spain/Salesianos Santo Angel Aviles) tallied a pair of first half goals to lead No. 3 Indian Hills Men's Soccer to a 3-0 victory over Western Iowa Tech Community College at the IHCC Soccer Complex on Wednesday. The Warriors remain unbeaten on the year at 6-0-1.

Mulero tallied his team-leading fifth and sixth goals with two goals over the final 16 minutes of the first half of play. The Warriors tacked on an insurance goal in the closing minutes to secure its fourth shutout of the year. With the win, Indian Hills extends its program-best start to a season.

The Warriors, ranked No. 3 in this week's National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Soccer poll, saw a pair of solid performances in net from freshman Hugo Sotomayor (Murcia, Spain/IES Alcantara) and Jacopo Trolese (Milan, Italy/Salesiani Sesto). The duo split their time in net as Sotomayor earned his first collegiate victory while Trolese came up clutch with a point-blank save in the second half.

As a team, the Warriors outshot the Comets 20-6 in the first all-time meeting between the two clubs. Both sides earned five corner kicks on the day.

Mulero opened up the scoring in the 30th minute as the sophomore broke free after receiving a throw-in from Gonzalo Garcia (Catagena, Spain/Colegio). Mulero beat a series of defenders in the box before firing a shot past the Western Iowa Tech keeper. The sophomore needed less than eight minutes to find the back once again, this time on his own accord. Mulero bent a corner kick from the left side of the net that hooked past the outstretched arms of the Comets' keeper for the 2-0 lead.

Indian Hills maintained its advantage throughout the second half before freshman Santiago Cardenas (Lima, Peru/Bruno Traverso Damonti) tacked on his third goal of the season at the 82:55 mark. Cardenas buried his first touch on an assist from Lucas Bauer (Oldenburg, Germany/IGS Kreyenbruck) from close range to put the Warriors on top 3-0.

Indian Hills returns to action on Sunday afternoon with a nonconference tilt against Jefferson College (MO). Kick-off is set for 3:00 PM.
