Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Daniel Mulero (Asturias, Spain/Salesianos Santo Angel Aviles) and freshman Vittorio Bellesi (Breno, Italy/Olivelli Putelli) swept the weekly Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week awards, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
The duo helped the Warriors continue their historic season with three victories on the road last week. Indian Hills, ranked No. 1 in the nation for the third consecutive week this week, secured wins over Otero Junior College (CO), No. 20 Barton Community College (KS), and Dodge City Community College (KS) to push its record to 12-0-1 on the year.
Mulero collects his fourth ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor after tallying a pair of goals and an assist last week for the Warriors. The sophomore midfielder produced the week's biggest score, the game-winner with less than two minutes to knock off Barton for a 3-2 win.
Mulero currently ranks second in the nation with 31 points on the year. The sophomore's nine assists are fifth-most in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) while his 11 goals rank 7th. Mulero, who has scored a goal in 10 of the 12 matches he has competed in this year, is the only player in the nation with at least seven goals and seven assists on the year.
Bellesi lands his second ICCAC DI Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award this year after anchoring the defense to three wins. Bellesi, who has started each of the last eight contests on defense for the Warriors, tallied an assist in Sunday's 4-1 win over Dodge City, his second point from the backline this season.
The Warriors return to action Sunday afternoon with a key ICCAC matchup against league foe Iowa Western Community College, ranked No. 6 in the nation with a 12-0-1 record. The two sides will square off at the IHCC Soccer Complex in Ottumwa at 3:00 PM.
