Ottumwa, IA – The No. 4 ranked Indian Hills Men's Soccer team, fresh off an at-large bid to the upcoming National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Soccer National Championships, earned four postseason honors, announced by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) on Tuesday.
The Warriors collected four NJCAA All-Region 11 First-Team selections following a breakthrough year for the program. Four sophomores – Daniel Mulero (Asturias, Spain/Salesianos Santo Angel Aviles), Jeremie Truel (Nosy-Be, Madagascar/Lycee Saint Joseph Pierre Rouge), Lucas Bauer (Oldenburg, Germany/IGS Kreyenbruck), and Miguel Rivera (Santiago De Cali, Columbia/Instituto Tecnico De Excelencia Empresarial), members of last year's national tournament run, were selected to this year's All-Region squad.
"Very proud of our guys who earned All-Region selections," stated head coach Zac Newton. "Danny and Lucas have both been solid goal scorers this year for us while Jeremie and Miguel have done an excellent job of being our anchors in the midfield."
The Warriors, ranked No. 1 in the national polls for three weeks on the year, its highest in program history, clinched an at-large bid to the upcoming national tournament following a 14-2-2 record during the regular season. The Warriors nearly advanced out of the Pool Play round in last year's national tournament, falling in penalty kicks. Indian Hills will take part in its second consecutive national tournament and just its third appearance in school history.
Mulero produced one of the most dominant individual seasons in school history as the sophomore currently ranks fourth in the nation with 42 points while his 16 assists rank third and his 13 goals rank 10th in the NJCAA. Mulero is one of just four players nationally with double-digit goals and assists on the year.
Mulero's 53 career points are third-most in school history while his 21 career assists are also third-most. The midfielder is tied for fifth all-time with 16 career goals. Mulero is also tied for first in school history with 16 assists in a single season while his 42 points this season are fourth-most.
Bauer produced another explosive offensive season for the Warriors, tallying nine goals and eight assists for a total of 26 points. Bauer produced a pair of multi-goal efforts on the year, including his first-career hat trick in a 5-2 win over Jefferson College (MO).
In two seasons at Indian Hills, Bauer has recorded 41 career points, tied for sixth-most in school history while his 14 career goals and 13 career assists both rank in the top-10.
Truel contributed an impressive sophomore campaign, starting 15 contests in the midfield for the Warriors. The second-year member of the program tallied four points on one goal and two assists. Truel served a key leadership role as an upperclassmen for the Warriors this year.
Rivera provided veteran leadership for the Warriors after contributing to the Warriors' postseason run as a freshman. The midfielder served a key role on both sides of the ball, locking down opposing defenses. Rivera tallied one goal and one assist on the year for the Warriors.
The Warriors, who will enter the postseason as the No. 7 seed, will head to the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, KS with the opening matchup vs. No. 9 seed Western Nebraska Community College at 12:30 PM on November 18.
