Ottumwa, IA – Following a historic season, the Indian Hills Men's Soccer squad has been rewarded with a pair of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Soccer All-American awards. Sophomores Daniel Mulero (Asturias, Spain/Salesianos Santo Angel Aviles) and Lucas Bauer (Oldenburg, Germany/IGS Kreyenbruck) have been named to the prestigious postseason squads.
2024 NJCAA DI MEN'S SOCCER ALL-AMERICA TEAM
Mulero was named to the NJCAA All-America First-Team after a breakout sophomore campaign, just the third first-team All-American in school history. Bauer's standout sophomore season was rewarded with a spot on the NJCAA All-America Second-Team.
The duo become the seventh and eighth individuals in school history to earn NJCAA All-Americans after leading the Warriors to their second consecutive NJCAA DI Men's Soccer National Tournament. Mulero and Bauer are a group of eight sophomores this year that become the first class in school history to appear in two national tournaments.
"Danny and Lucas are extremely deserving of this honor," stated head coach Zac Newton. "Both guys had fantastic seasons with goals and assists for us and were a big part of why we had such a historic season. I'm very proud of what they achieved here and I know they'll continue this on at their next school."
Mulero produced one of the most dominant individual seasons in school history to land on the All-America team for the Warriors. The sophomore ranked third in the nation with 49 points, the second-most in a single season in program history. Mulero tallied a school record 19 assists, third-most in the nation, to go along with 15 goals, tied for the fifth-most in a single season in school history.
The midfielder tallied at least one point in 17 of the 20 matches he participated in this year, including 11 matches with at least three points. Mulero recorded a career-high six points after tallying a school record four assists to go along with a goal in a 5-2 win over Jefferson College (MO). Mulero also added four assists in a thrilling 5-4 win over #19 Lewis & Clark College (IL) on October 18.
Mulero starred in the national tournament for the Warriors, powering Indian Hills to the semifinals for the first time in school history. The sophomore tallied seven points in three matches with three assists and a pair of goals to earn a spot on the NJCAA All-Tournament Team.
INDIAN HILLS MEN'S SOCCER RECORD BOOK
A four-time Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week and a member of the NJCAA All-Region 11 First-Team, Mulero was the only player in the nation to record at least 15 goals and 15 assists on the year and one of just four individuals with double-digit goals and assists in 2024.
Mulero closed out his Indian Hills career with a school record 24 assists over the past two seasons while his 60 career points are second-most all-time. Mulero also ranks fourth all-time with 18 goals.
Bauer capped a remarkable career at Indian Hills with a selection to the NJCAA All-America team. The forward produced career-high totals in goals (9), assists (10) and points (28) to power the Warrior offense.
The sophomore contributed at least one point in 15 matches on the year. Bauer produced a career-high six points after tallying a hat trick in a 5-2 win over Jefferson on September 22. Bauer added a pair of goals in the Warriors' 5-4 win over Lewis & Clark on October 18.
Bauer, an NJCAA All-Region 11 First-Team selection and an ICCAC Athlete of the Week in September, finished his Indian Hills career with 43 points, sixth-most in school history. Bauer's 14 career goals and 15 career assists both rank in the top-10 all-time for the Warriors.
The Warriors have now earned six NJCAA All-America honors in the last three seasons. Mulero joins former Indian Hills standouts Daniele Verdirosi (2022) and Akean Shackleford (2017) to earn NJCAA DI Men's Soccer All-America First-Team honors.
