Waverly, IL – The No. 11 ranked Indian Hills Men's Cross Country team took home a fourth-place finish at the Dan Huston Invitational at the Max Cross Country Course on Saturday. The Warriors earned a pair of top-10 individual finishes in the 134-athlete field.
Indian Hills, ranked No. 11 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), was led by sophomore Brandon Ford (Perth, Western Australia/Duncraig) in the 8k event. Ford was the first non-Wartburg College athlete to cross the finish line with a seventh-place showing at a time of 25:04.7.
Ford was joined in the top-10 by sophomore Cayde de Waal (Brakpan, South Africa/Hoërskool Oosterlig) who checked in at ninth overall with a time of 25:11.2 in the team's first 8k competition of the year.
Freshman Bailey Taig (Perth, Western Australia/Quinn's Baptist College) crossed the line in 27:03.1 as the third Warrior to score team points with a 53rd-place showing. Damien Sprouse (Zachary, LA/Zachary) posted a 68th-place showing with a time of 27:36.8
Wartburg, ranked No. 2 in the latest NCAA DIII national rankings, took the team title with 15 points followed by Nebraska Wesleyan College and Iowa State University Club.
The Warriors are set to host the annual Indian Hills Invitational, the program's premiere home event at Cedar Creek Golf Course in Ottumwa, IA on October 11. The home meet serves as the first of two events on the Warriors' home trail as Indian Hills plays host to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 11 Championship on October 25, also at Cedar Creek Golf Course.
