Jackson Junction, IA – The Indian Hills Shotgun Sports squad opened its season with a pair of wins in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) East Division Trap Triangular on Saturday. The Warriors tied a program record with 482 targets to drop Kirkwood Community College and Northeast Iowa Community College.
The Warriors' 482 ties the previous school record set at last year's ACUI/SCTP Clay Target National Championships in San Antonio, TX. The Warriors surpassed the 480 mark for just the fourth time in program history with its performance on Saturday at the Turkey Valley Trap Range.
Indian Hills saw a number of impressive individual performances to contribute to the overall team effort. Sophomores Aidan Eischen (New Sharon, IA/North Mahaska) and Zane Kirubakaran (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) tied for second overall on the day with 98 targets. Both veterans connect on two rounds of 25 along with two rounds of 24 to pace the Warriors and earn a spot on the podium.
Jordan Patterson (Cambridge, IA/Ballard) put together two rounds of 25 to finish with 97 targets on the day with Deven Renard (Knoxville, IA/Knoxville) close out the final three rounds with scores of 25-24-24 to post a 95 overall. Raymond Franzen (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) and Isaac Weir (Albia, IA/Albia) closed out the top-five with 94 targerts.
The Warriors took home two of the top-three podium spots on the women's side as sophomore Haley Byrge (Chilton, WI/Chilton) led the way with a 92 followed by fellow sophomore Scarlet Meyer (Bloomfield, IA/Davis County) with a personal best round of 91. Byrge closed out the day with 49/50 targets in the final two rounds while Meyer connected on 47/50 targets over the last two rounds to finish strong. Emma Bradley (Albia, IA/Albia) added an 86 for the Warriors in her collegiate debut.
"Great start to the season for the IHCC Shotgun Sports Squad," stated head coach Jake Stalzer. "We had some great scores all around with Aidan (Eischen) and Zane (Kirubakaran) leading the team with 98's. Jordan (Patterson) firing a 97 was great to see - he picked up right where he left off with having finished strong this past spring. Extremely proud for Deven (Renard) with his 95 and for Ray (Franzen) and Isaac (Weir) to tie with solid 94's to round out our top-five. The ladies shot very well too – very proud of Scarlet for having shot her personal best 91 and making the podium. Having 11 out of our 15 in the 90's and beginning the season 2-0 in conference play is a fantastic start. I'm excited to see how this fall plays out for the squad as we get more rounds and experience under our belt."
Indian Hills earned a win over Northeast Iowa for the first time in three years while the Warriors move to 4-0 all-time in conference action against Kirkwood.
Indian Hills returns to action September 14-15 in Waukee, IA with the annual Simpson Invite at New Pioneer Gun Club.
