WARRIORS TAKE THIRD AT SIMPSON SHOOTOUT

Indianola, IA – The Indian Hills Shotgun Sports squad took home a third-place finish at the Simpson Shootout on Sunday in the team's spring opener. The Warriors totaled 1,501 targets across all four disciplines.

Competing against all four-year universities, the Warriors took the third-place finish behind William Penn University and host Simpson College. Indian Hills tallied 444 trap targets, 408 sporting clays, 446 skeet, and 203 super sporting targets.

The Warriors were led by sophomore Carson Abrams' (Oskaloosa, IA/Pella Christian) 301 high overall score, including a team-high 91 skeet targets. Abrams' consistent performance across all four disciplines included 88 trap targets, 84 sporting clays, and 38 super sporting targets.

Jason Stursma (Harvey, IA/Pella) followed Abrams with 300 total targets, including a team-best 92 trap targets. Sophomore Cooper Clark (Story City, IA/Roland Story) led the Warriors in the sporting clays with 85 birds while sophomore Zane Kirubakaran (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) led the Warriors with 42 super sporting targets.

Johnathon Boender (Oskaloosa, IA/Pella Christian) aided in the overall team effort with 292 total targets throughout the two-day event. Clark tallied 289 targets while sophomore Aiden Eischen (New Sharon, IA/North Mahaska) rounded out the top-five individual efforts with 288 targets.

Sophomore Haley Byrge (Chilton, WI/Chilton) led the women's side for the Warriors with 274 total targets, including 84 trap targets and 39 super sporting targets to crack the top-five team score. Sophomore Emma Adams (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) added 203 total targets on the weekend.

In total, nine of the 11 individuals competing aided in the top-five in at least one discipline.

The Warriors will now turn their attention to the upcoming ACUI/SCTP Collegiate Clay Target Championships at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, TX. Action gets underway for the Warriors March 19.
