ABRAMS GUIDES WARRIORS AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

San Antonio, TX – The Indian Hills Shotgun Sports squad wrapped up its 2024-25 campaign at the ACUI/SCTP Clay Target Collegiate Championships. The Warriors placed fifth overall in the Division IV Classic All-Around with 1,326 total targets.

In a tightly-contested chase for a national title, he Warriors produced strong showings in both skeet and trap to finish just 44 targets off of first-place Murray State College (OK). The Warriors boasted the second-most skeet targets (466) and the fifth-most trap targets (477) while adding 383 sporting clays targets. Across all divisions, the Warriors placed 31st out of 103 trap squads and 33rd out of 100 skeet squads.

"Even though the team didn't end up placing where we would have liked to, it was a great week down in San Antonio at the ACUI/SCTP Collegiate Clay Target Championships," stated head coach Jake Stalzer.  The team was fairly strong in trap and skeet, however, sporting clays hurt us a bit and ended up being the main reason we were knocked off of the podium for the first time at a national event.

Sophomore Carson Abrams (Oskaloosa, IA/Pella Christian) produced one of the best individual performances at a national shoot in school history, placing third overall with 285/300 total targets. Abrams' success led to a shoot-off for a potential national runner-up spot, but fell just three targets shy in the extra round. Abrams' third-place finish came against a field of 257 total competitors as the sophomore capped his Indian Hills career in dominant fashion.

Abrams' top discipline proved to be sporting clays where he placed fourth overall out of 78 competitors, tallying 91/100 targets. Abrams tied for 21st overall in skeet and 32nd overall in trap.

Fellow sophomore Haley Byrge (Chilton, WI/Chilton) took home a 15th place finish out of 78 females in the national shoot. Byrge connected on 257/300 targets while placing seventh overall in trap with an impressive 97 targets.

"It was a pleasure to watch and see Carson be locked-in in every aspect and end his collegiate shooting career on a high note.  Haley Byrge also really stepped up for us this year & shot phenomenal.  I want to thank this veteran squad and all the sophomores for their hard work and dedication throughout the past few years.  This squad will go down as one of the best in Indian Hills Shotgun Sports history and will be difficult to replace."

Sophomore Zane Kirubakaran (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) placed 56th overall on the men's side with 260 total targets, including 96 trap targets and 94 skeet targets.

Emma Adams (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) placed 37th overall out of 78 competitors in skeet after connecting on 91 targets.
