Ottumwa, IA – While the Indian Hills Men's Golf season opened with a dominant performance at the Blue River Classic last week, a number of former Warriors are off to strong starts in 2024 at the four-year level.
Take a look at where 16 former Warrior student-athletes and coaches are competing this year.
Jose Carletta (2023-24) | Wichita State University
The 2024 NJCAA Central District Champion and 2024 NJCAA All-American, Carletta has helped his new squad at Wichita State get off to a strong start in 2024. Carletta, joined by two additional former Warriors, helped the Shockers take runner-up honors at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational in Edwardsville, IL in the team's 2024 season opener.
Carletta tied for 23rd overall after firing round scores of 73-69-71--213 (E) to finish third overall for the Shockers.
Edouard Cereto (2022-23) | Georgia Southern University
A member of the 2023 NJCAA National Championship squad, Cereto transferred to Georgia Southern for the 2024-25 season after an impressive season at Southern Illinois University last year. At Southern Illinois, Cereto was named the 2024 MVC Newcomer of the Year and 2024 MVC First-Team All-Conference after winning the 2024 MVC individual championship.
Cereto opened his tenure at Georgia Southern this year with a 3 & 2 match play win to help the Eagles defeat Mercer University. Cereto also added a 6 & 5 individual win to go 2-0 in the season-opener.
Gaspar Glaudas (2022-24) | Stetson University
The 2024 Gary Player International Player of the Year for the NJCAA, Glaudas left Indian Hills as one of the most decorated individuals in program history.
In his debut for Stetson, Glaudas powered the Hatters to a fourth-place team finish at the Golfweek Fall Challenge in Pawley's Island, SC. Glaudas fired a team-low 5-under, 211 to place eighth overall. Glaudas fired round scores of 69-71-71--211 in the team's season opener.
Matias Koropeski (2023-24) | Northern Colorado University
Koropeski is in his first season with the Bears after competing for the Warriors during his freshman campaign in 2023-24. Koropeski helped lead the Warriors to an eighth-place finish at the 2024 NJCAA National Championship before transferring to Northern Colorado.
Jose Luis Vargas (2023-24) | University of Northwestern Ohio
A member of the 2023-24 Indian Hills Men's Golf squad, Vargas moved on to Northwestern Ohio where he competed in the team's season opener at the UNOH Fall Invitational August 31-September 1. Vargas tied for 15th overall with a 6-over, 222, including a 1-under 71 in the second round.
Taimur Malik (2022-23) | Long Island University
A member of the 2022-23 NJCAA National Championship squad as a freshman, Malik is in his second year with Long Island. As a sophomore in 2023-24, Malik was named to the second-team All-NEC and posted a personal best 4-under, 206 to place eighth overall at the Doc Gimmler at Bethpage Red.
Maximilian Morgenstern (2023-24) | Saint Leo University
A member of the 2023-24 Warriors, Morgenstern will suit up for Saint Leo University, a NCAA DII member in Saint Leo University. The Lions have yet to open up their 2024 campaign.
Jose Miguel Ramirez (2022-24) | Wichita State University
The 2023 NJCAA National Champion, Ramirez is one of three former Warriors to suit up for head coach Judd Easterling's squad this year. In Ramirez's debut with the Shockers during the team's season opener at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational in Edwardsville, IL, Ramirez fired round scores of 74-70-72--216 (+3) to place 34th overall for the Shockers.
Mitchell Revie (2021-23) | Wichita State University
Following a year off, Revie returns to collegiate golf for the Shockers. The former two-year member of the Warriors, Revie served as a key contributor to the Warriors' 2023 NJCAA National Championship team.
Jaskaran Sohal (2021-23) | University of South Carolina Upstate
A member of the 2022-23 NJCAA National Championship team, Sohal is in his second season at USC Upstate. As a junior last year, Sohal posted a season scoring average of 75.8 with a season-best finish of 20th place at the Big South Championships.
Sohal opened up the 2024 season at the Golfweek Fall Challenge in Pawley's Island, SC with a strong showing that included a final round 73 to close out the week.
Frank Vucic (2021-22) | Loyola Marymount University
Former Warrior Frank Vucic, who led the team at the 2022 NJCAA National Championship as an All-American, is in his second season at Loyola Marymount after an initial season at the University of Kansas.
Julien Sale (2016-18) | DP World Tour (European Tour)
Former Indian Hills All-American and No. 1 ranked golfer in the NJCAA, Sale has continued to compete on the DP World Tour (European Tour). Sale currently ranks 914th overall in the Official World Golf Ranking after an impressive showing at the Indoor Golf Group Challenge in Vesterby, Sweden in August. Sale, who owned a share of the lead after the opening round with 6-under 65, finished 12th overall after posting a final round 69.
Sale also recently competed at the Rosa Challenge Tour in Konopiska, Poland and the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge supported by Finnish Golf Union in Vierumäki, Finland.
Mike Hagen (Coach - 2006-15) | Arkansas State University
One of the most decorated NJCAA coaches in history, Hagen has continued to excel at the next level and enters his ninth season at the helm of the Red Wolves. Arkansas State, who placed ninth at the NCAA Regionals last year, opened up the 2024 campaign in dominant fashion by winning the 2024 Golfweek Fall Challenge. The Red Wolves fired a 35-under, 829 to defeat the field by 12 strokes, including an program individual record low round with a 9-under 63.
Rob Murray (Coach - 2014-17) | Long Beach State University
Murray, who led the Warriors to a runner-up finish at the 2017 NJCAA National Championship, recently signed a five-year extension with Long Beach State after winning the program's second consecutive Big West title in his second season at the helm of the program. "Rob Murray has instituted a championship culture as evidenced by back-to-back Big West Conference championships and this contract extension signifies our belief in the future of the men's golf program under his leadership," said Executive Director of Athletics, Bobby Smitheran.
Murray has won Big West Coach of the Year honors in each of his two seasons at the helm. Long Beach opens up the 2024 season at the Ram Masters Invitational in Fort Collins, CO on September 17.
Brad Smith (2004-06) | Webster University
A member of the NJCAA Hall of Fame as well as the Indian Hills Hall of Fame, Smith put together one of the most decorated careers at Indian Hills as a two-time All-American before embarking on a professional career.
Smith is in his fourth season at the helm of the Webster program and placed second overall at last year's SLIAC Championship. Webster opened up the 2024 season at the Transylvania Fall Invitational on September 1.
Brad Stracke (Player – 1987-89, Coach – 1997-2005) | Odessa College
Stracke enters his second season at the helm of Odessa after leading the program to a runner-up finish at last year's national championship. The Wranglers are currently ranked No. 1 in the preseason NJCAA Clippd powered by Scoreboard rankings.
