Fayette, Missouri- The men's track and field team started their 2018 outdoor campaign with a partial squad that traveled to Central Methodist University for the CMU Open. The meet consisted of several NAIA and NCAA DII teams, as well as NCAA DI University of Missouri. Multiple school records were broken despite temperatures that saw the windchill dip to the mid 30's.

Nathan Winters had arguably his most impressive performance since the 2017 NJCAA Outdoor National Meet where he was runner-up in the shot put and discus. Winters placed second in the shot put with a toss of 16.68m, his furthest throw this year. The three time All-American rounded out the day with a second place finish in the discus (48.37m). Both of these marks qualify Winters for the 2018 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Meet hosted by Butler Community College. Deterio Newman started his collegiate career with a bang. In his first meet wearing maroon and gold, the freshman from Sikeston, Missouri placed second in the 400m (49.51), missing the school record by .02 seconds. Newman bounced back to run 22.36 in the 200m, breaking the outdoor school record, placing second overall. Joshua Raphael was close behind Newman in the 200m, crossing the finish line in third with a time of 22.52.

Bernard McCann placed fourth in the men's 100 (11.36).  Chris Kubli kicked off his outdoor season with a 1:58.22 performance in the 800m, winning by a second and a half and breaking the school record. Other notable performances, included a 15th and 16th place showing by Cameron Schroeder and Zachary Hougland in the 1,500m run, crossing the line in 4:23 and 4:24, respectively. The indoor school record holders and national qualifying high jump duo of Colton Lanman and Dion Ryan placed third and fourth in the event.

The Warriors will send a few individuals to the Grand View Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa Saturday, March 24th before opening up with the full squad Friday, March 30th at Central College.
