Men's track

Lincoln, Nebraska -- Indian Hills track and field athletes turned in seven all-time top 5 performances and one school record at the Graduate Classic hosted by the University of Nebraska.

Among the highlights for the Warriors were Elijah Berry and Kohner Butts both demolishing the previous school record in the 800 meters.  Berry ran 1:55.40 and Butts clocked a 1:56.25.  Aytonn Bar-Shimon ran a lifetime best in the event, a 1:58.22 that was the 5th-fastest 800 time ever for IHCC.  Berry and Butts both qualified for the indoor national meet with their times.

Berry came back in the 400 meters on Saturday and ran 48.77 as the top collegiate finisher with the second all-time fastest 400 in program history.

Zach White turned in the second-fastest 3000 meters for Indian Hills, running 9:11.  Teammate Conner Riley moved into the third spot in the IHCC record book for the 3000, finishing in 9:14.

Nick Fitzpatrick had a collegiate best in the shot put with a toss of 13.74 meters, improving upon his third-best all-time program throw from the weekend before at the University of Iowa.

Other notable performances turned in by Indian Hills athletes in the meet included Brandon Snowden's 7.11 in the 60 meters; Tracy Gates ran 7.13 in the 60; Jasean White was 6th in the long jump with a 6.71 leap; Chris Hudnall finished 4th in the 60 meter hurdles; and Spencer Magill high-jumped 1.89 meters to wind up 13th.

A number of Indian Hills squad members went to Pella for the Dutch Athletics Classic.  Torian Kingston ran 36.40 to win the 300 meters.  Jaxson Sharp was 7th in the high jump going 1.87 meters.  And Robert Taylor's long jump distance of 6.34 meters was 11th.

IHCC coach Brent Ewing was pleased with the performances he saw at the meet in Nebraska.  "Seventy-five percent of our roster is composed of freshmen," Ewing pointed out, "which means there is a lot of learning to do.  I think many of them are adjusting to the grind of the collegiate indoor track and field season.  There's definitely a learning curve.  This was the first weekend we've had the majority of the team compete.  I was really pleased with our distance running contingent.  Zach White and Conner Riley had really solid openers in the 3000 meters.  Nick Fitzpatrick is finding his groove in the shot put.  We told him we needed a big toss this weekend and he responded very well.  Our 400/800 group has been extremely reliable this season.  Berry, Butts and Micah Reed have hit a combined six national qualifying marks.  Bar-Shimon and Nathan Simons are within a few tenths of qualifying as well.  Bar-Shimon's improvement and competitiveness has been very fun to watch."

These are the IHCC athletes who are in the top 20 nationally:
