Ames, IA – The sprinters of the Indian Hills Men's Track & Field program continued to excel with an impressive showing at the Cyclone Open on Saturday. Sophomore Aurel Tchanbi (Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire/College Heleis) won a pair of events to lead the Warriors.
In the men's 60-mter dash, Tchanbi opened up with a 6.87 qualifying mark before taking the top time in the finals with a 6.80 mark to win his second 60-meter dash event of the year. Isiah Thomas (Milwaukee, WI/Destiny) set a personal best time in the event to finish second with a 6.82 mark while D'Eric Smith (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial) placed fourth with a personal best time of 6.92.
Tchanbi followed up his 60-meter performance with a first-place showing in the men's 200-meter dash, clocking in at 21.47. As a team, the Warriors took home six of the top-12 places in the event. Thomas placed fourth overall at 21.57 followed by Kendrick Winfield's (Louisville, KY/Louisville Male) fifth-place showing at 21.61.
Rivaldo Marshall (Kingston, Jamaica/Calabar) eclipsed his own school record in the men's 800-yard run, clocking in at 1:51.53 for the fifth best showing at Saturday's event.
Roneldo Rock (St. Joseph, Barbados/Grantley Adams Memorial) set the new school record in the men's 600-yard run with a time of 1:13.54. Rock's mark was the top time at the event while Dorian Craven (Dallas, TX/Duncanville) placed second with a personal best time of 1:14.45.
The Warriors recorded the top two places in the men's 4x400 relay event. Justin Walden (Miami, FL/North Miami), Marshall, Woyn Chatman (Little Rock, AR/Little Rock Central), and Winfield sprinted to a season-best time of 3:14.75. The second-place group was anchored by Sydney Peal (Crofton, MD/Bullis), Rock, Jerry Harper (Rantoul, IL/Rantoul), and Dean Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica/Calabar).
In the jumps events, the Warriors saw a pair of standout performances to highlight the day. JC Ramirez (Odessa, TX/Odessa) won the triple jump event with a mark of 13.91. Robin Meredith (Springfield, IL/Springfield Southeast) placed third with a mark of 13.11. Chris Sizemore placed second overall in the long jump with a mark of 6.62-meters, a season-best for the freshman.
Next up for the Warriors is the Mark Schuck Open Jan. 28-29 in Mankato, MN.
