Ottumwa, IA – Defending outdoor national champion Rivaldo Marshall (Kingston, Jamaica/Calabar) produced a dominant performance at the Washburn University Alumni Invitational on Saturday to earn United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week honors.
Marshall, who captured the 2022 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Track & Field 800-Meter National Championship last year, opened his sophomore campaign with an impressive showing in the men's 1000-meter event. Marshall took home first-place with a personal best time of 2:27.39. The mark is also a new facility record at the Washburn complex and is the 13th best time in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) history.
Marshall's time in the 1000-meter run is the second-fastest in school history. The sophomore currently owns four individual school records and ranks in the top-four in two additional categories.
Along with the individual performance, Marshall teamed up to take home first-place in the men's 4x400-meter relay. Running the third leg, Marshall provided the fastest split at 48.345 as the Warriors cruised to a time of 3:15.22.
Marshall is coming off a freshman campaign that included the national title and three NJCAA All-American honors.
Along with Marshall's national honor this week, teammate Jahzara Hart was named the USTFCCCA National Female Athlete of the Week.
