WARRIORS EARN 11 ALL-REGION PICKS

Ottumwa, IA – The No. 6 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Track & Field squad earned 11 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region XI selections, announced Thursday afternoon by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

The Warriors brought home three first-team All-Region XI selections, three second-team honors, and five honorable mention recipients. Indian Hills earned the third-most All-Region selections among the conference, which are awarded to the top-three finishers in each event at the NJCAA Region XI Indoor Track & Field Championship. As a team, the Warriors placed third overall at this year's NJCAA Region XI Championship which was held February 17-18 at the Buena Vista University Indoor Track Facility in Storm Lake, IA.

The three first-team All-Region honorees included sophomore Rivaldo Marshall (Kingston, Jamaica/Calabar), freshman Tyrice Taylor (Linstead, Jamaica/Linstead) and the men's 4x400-meter relay squad consisting of Chris Johnson ( (Houston, TX/Cypress Park)), Ke'vontae Walls-Burdine (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran), Kylen Crosby (Alpharetta, GA/Alpharetta), and Woyn Chatman (Little Rock, AR/Little Rock Central).

Marshall, who took home top honors in the men's 1,000-meter run with a facility and meet record, was also named the 2023 ICCAC Track Athlete of the Year.

Taylor's breakout freshman saw was rewarded with first-place honors after winning the men's 600-meter run with a time of 1:20.58. Taylor became just the second 600m region champ in school history, joining Elijah Berry in 2020.

The men's relay squad dominated the field to win the program's third consecutive region title in the event. The quartet ran a blistering time of 3:16.23 to break a 10-year old meet record and an eight-year old facility record.

Chatman was named second-team All-Region in the men's 400-meter dash after placing second overall with a time of 48.29 while Johnson earned honorable mention status with a third-place finish and a time of 48.60.

Freshman Cole Reinders (Sarnia, Ontario/St. Patrick's Catholic) earned second-team honors with a second-place finish in the men's 800-meter run. Reinders' time of 1:55.22 is the fastest by an Indian Hills athlete in the event at the region championship in school history.

Teammates CJ McFerrin (Alpharetta, GA/Alpharetta) and Damien Lewis (College Station, TX/Brenham) took home second-team and honorable mention honors, respectively, in the men's 60-meter hurdles.

Sophomore D'Eric Smith (Bridgeton, NJ/Ankeny Centennial) earned honorable mention in the men's 200-meter dash and a time of 22.28.

Freshman Mohammed Al-Yafaee (Doha, Qatar/Aspire Academy) placed third overall in the men's 1,000m run to join Marshall on the podium. Al-Yafaee's time of 2:28.32 also surpassed the previous meet and facility record.

Troy Johnson (Lancaster, PA/J.P. McCaskey) rounded out the honors with an honorable mention status in the men's long jump. Johnson jumped to a distance of 7.15 meters.

The Warriors will now turn their attention to the upcoming NJCAA National Championship March 3-4 at Washburn University in Topeka, KS.
