WARRIOR ALUMS SHINE AT NEXT LEVEL

The Indian Hills Men's Track & Field squad saw a number of its alums produce dominant seasons at the four-year and professional levels. See which former Warriors excelled on the track and course.

Damoy Allen – University of Iowa

Allen made an immediate impact in his inaugural season as a Hawkeye this past year. The sprinter helped set a 4x400-meter relay outdoor record. Allen also produced a pair of top-10 marks in school history in the indoor season in the 60-meter and the 200-meter dash events. Allen won three events on the year and tallied 12 top-10 finishes.

Jarvis Barber Jr. – Tusculum University

In his second season with the Pioneers, Barber Jr. was a part of five first-place relay finishes and placed third overall at the 2023 SAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The sprinter is a part of the top-five 4x100 outdoor times in school history and ranks in the top-10 in both the outdoor 100m and 200m events. Barber also owns the indoor school record marks in the 4x300 and 4x400 relays. The senior earned All-Region honors in the 4x100m relay event.

Elijah Barnes – University of Iowa

Barnes wrapped up his stellar throwing career at Iowa and will now transition to an Assistant Coach at Indian Hills under head coach Brent Ewing. Barnes, a three-time All-American at Indian Hills, finished his career in the top-10 at Iowa in both the indoor and outdoor shot put events and led the Hawkeyes with top marks this past season, advancing to the NCAA DI Track & Field West Prelims.

Kenny Bednarek – Professional Circuit

A two-time national champion at Indian Hills and Olympic Silver Medalist at the Tokyo Games, Bednarek continues to shine in the professional ranks. Bednarek has competed most recently at the Kip Keino Classic in Kasarni Nairobi where he placed second in the 100m with a time of 9.98. Bednarek, the 2019 NJCAA 200m National Champion placed second overall at the Diamond Leauge Meeting in Qatar on May 5 with his best mark of the year at 20.11.

Elijah Berry – Oklahoma State University

A seven-time national qualifier and three-time All-American, Berry earned All-Big 12 honors last year in the 4x400m relay event and is set to compete at the NCAA National Championships this week. Berry and the relay quartet own the sixth fastest time in the Big 12 this year heading into nationals. The relay squad's mark of 3:05.88 is just shy of the school record 3:05.51 set in 2022 which Berry was a part of and broke a 39-year old record. Berry was also an All-Big 12 performer last year in the 600y event.

Dorian Craven – Tusculum University

An All-American in his final season at Indian Hills, Craven made an impact in his inaugural season at Tusculum this year. As part of the 4x400m relay outdoor squad, Craven owns four of the top seven marks in school history, winning two events on the year while adding a third in the indoor season. Craven earned two All-Region honors this past season as a member of the 4x400m relay team.

Colton Glosser – University of Tennessee-Martin

Glosser has competed for the Skyhawks each of the last two seasons after a standout career for the Indian Hills Cross Country and Track & Field programs. Glosser earned a pair of top-15 finishes in the outdoor season this past year, including a 15th place showing in the 10k at the OVC Championships in May. Glosser is a three-time member of the Skyhawks' UT Martin AD Honor Roll.

Chris Hudnall – University of Wisconsin Milwaukee

Hudnall earned a pair of national qualifier performances at Indian Hills before venturing on to the University of Milwaukee. Hudnall helped guide the Panthers to a second-place team finish at the Horizon Championships, setting a personal best mark in the 100mH with a time of 14.86 to place fifth overall. Hudnall earned 11 top-10 finishes between the indoor and outdoor seasons this year spread out across the 60mH, 110mH, the 60m, 100m, and the 4x100m.

Corrion Matthews – Purdue University Northwest

Following a season at Drury University, Matthews competed in 10 events between the indoor and outdoor season at Purdue Northwest this past track & field season. Matthews was a part of a fifth-place performance in both the 4x100 and 4x400 events at the 2023 GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Mathews earned eight additional top-five finishes throughout the regular season.

Ethan Mesenbrink – Missouri Western State University

A standout distance runner for the Indian Hills Cross Country and Track & Field programs, Mesenbrink has competed in nearly 30 events over the last seasons for the Griffons Cross Country and Track & Field programs, including the MIAA Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Championships. After earning Scholar All-American honors at Indian Hills, Mesenbrink has been named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll four times at Missouri Western.

Chris Metz – University of St. Mary

An All-American in his final season at Indian Hills, Metz joined the St. Mary program that captured the 2022 KCAC Cross Country Championships and the 2023 KCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Metz placed 9th overall in the 5k at the indoor championships and earned eight top-10 finishes in distance events throughout the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Brady Millikin – University of Tennessee-Martin

Millikin joined the UT Martin program after graduating from Indian Hills following the fall term in 2022. Millikin will compete next season for the Skyhawks.

Zackary Nelson – Tusculum University

An All-American at Indian Hills, Nelson was named the Team MVP last season and earned USTFCCCA All-Region Indoor and Outdoor honors and was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete. A standout career at Tusculum resulted in All-American honors in the men's 400m dash at the NCAA DII Indoor championships this year. Nelson has also collected All-Southeast Region honors and was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team as a Business Management student.

Nick O'Connor – University of Iowa

A seven-time All-American at Indian Hills between the track & field and cross country squads, O'Connor put together a number of impressive finishes in his first season in Iowa City. O'Connor helped lead the Hawkeyes' 4x400m relay squad to a first-place finish at the Jimmy Grant Invite. O'Connor also set personal best marks in the 800m (1:53.90) and the mile (4:15.81) at the Music City Challenge.

Sydney Peal – Long Beach State

A two-time All-American at Indian Hills, Peal competed in a number of indoor and outdoor events for Long Beach State this year. Peal has helped relay teams earn five top-five finishes on the year, including a second-place finish at the MPSF Indoor Track & Field Championships in Spokane, WA.

Floyd Pond – University of Louisiana at Lafayette

Pond earned a spot at the upcoming NCAA Track & Field National Championships in Austin, TX as a member of the Ragin' Cajuns 4x100-meter relay team. Pond earned 2023 Second-Team All-Sun Belt honors this past season after guiding the x100m relay squad to the program's fifth-fastest mark in school history at 39.77.

JC Ramirez – Purdue University Northwest

A triple jump All-American last year at Indian Hills, Ramirez has put together a strong first season at Purdue Northwest. Ramirez captured the 2023 GLIAC Outdoor Championship in the triple jump to lead the team to a sixth-place finish. Ramirez swept the triple jump championships after winning the GLIAC Indoor Championship. In total, Ramirez captured three individual titles on the year and eight top-five showings.

Nathan Simons – Mount Marty University

Simons recently wrapped up his second season at Mount Marty with a sixth-place showing in two separate events at the 2023 Great Plains AC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The sprinter also placed fifth at the 2023 GPAC Indoor Championships and earned a pair of bids to the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships in March.

Dylan Steele – University of Northern Colorado

Steele competed for the Bears' cross country and track programs in his first season at Northern Colorado. Steele recently produced a top-20 finish in the 1,500m run at the 2023 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track Championship. Steele produced a personal best 3,000m time of 9:48.96 to place fourth at the CSU Pueblo Spank Blasing Invite and added a third-place finish in the 5,000m at the Jack Christiansen Invite.

Justin Swann – University of Kentucky

Swann will be another Warrior alum competing at the NCAA National Championships in Austin, TX as the three-time NJCAA All-American will compete for Kentucky's 4x400m relay squad. Swann's relay group placed fourth overall at the 2023 SEC Outdoor Championships. On the year, Swann has captured a total of four first-place finishes, including three individual efforts in the 800m outdoor and 600m indoor events.

Isaiah Thomas - Indiana State University

A five-time NJCAA national qualifier and two-time All-American, Thomas has exploded onto the scene at Indiana State. As a member of the 2023 MVC Outdoor Track & Field Champions, Thomas has earned three first-place finishes on the year. As a member of the Sycamores' 4x100m relay squad, Thomas and the quartet finished .06 seconds off to narrowly miss out on a national qualifying mark. In his first meet for Indiana State, Thomas ran a time of 6.76 to place first overall in the 60m at the Blue Demon Invite.

Justin Walden – Northwestern State University of Louisiana

The 2022 ICCAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, Walden competed at 11 meets this year with marks in the 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x400 events with three top-5 finishes. Walden helped lead the 4x100m relay squad to a fourth-place finish at the TCU Alumni Invite with a time of 41.49.

Kalen Walker – University of Iowa

An All-American at Indian Hills, Walker has left his mark on the Iowa program in two seasons for the Hawkeyes. After a second-team All-American performance in the 60m last year, Walker owns the indoor school record with a time of 6.61 and is a part of the school record outdoor 4x400m relay squad. Walker is set to compete at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Austin, TX.

Kendrick Winfield – Alabama State University

Winfield is set to head to Austin, TX for the upcoming NCAA National Championships for a pair of relay events. Winfield will compete on the 4x400m relay squad and serve as an alternate on the 4x100m relay squad. The 4x400m relay squad placed eighth overall at the NCAA East Prelims round and took home first-place honors in the 2023 SWAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships as the Hornets won the team title. Winfield also used a personal best performance to win the 2023 400m SWAC Championship with a time of 46.02. Winfield has claimed 10 first-place finishes this year, including three individual efforts.
